The 2017 NBC Primetime Preview will give us a look at new and returning fall shows

NBC is giving us a sneak peek at it’s fall lineup with the upcoming special The 2017 NBC Primetime Preview. The show will be hosted by the cast of the show Great News and will feature an appearance from nine-time Emmy Award winning actress Tina Fey.

The half-hour show will begin on September 1 and continue through October 8. The 2017 NBC Primetime Preview will air more than 300 times across NBCUniversal media platforms and on over 240 participating NBC broadcast affiliates and owned television stations. In addition, the special will run on many stations’ D2 channels, NBCU cable channels, NBC.com, station websites and social media pages, as well as sales and marketing events across the country.

The 2017 NBC Primetime Preview will take a peek at the network’s new fall offerings, including the return of the landmark comedy series Will & Grace (premiering Sept. 28 at 9 p.m.), producer Dick Wolf’s event series Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders (premiering Sept. 26 at 10 p.m.) and the powerful new drama The Brave (premiering Sept. 25 at 10 p.m.), which focuses on America’s elite undercover military heroes.

Other series to be featured in the special include last season’s #1 new series, This Is Us, which earned 10 Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series; The Voice, featuring coaches Jennifer Hudson, Miley Cyrus, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton for the upcoming season; Superstore, the popular workplace comedy entering its third season; The Good Place, one of last season’s most critically acclaimed new comedies; Great News, the hot second-year comedy from executive producers Tracey Wigfield, Tina Fey and Robert Carlock; and Sunday Night Football, the #1-rated show on broadcast television.

Black Rose horror anthology written and directed by women, produced by Drew Barrymore in the works at The CW

Black Rose Anthology, a horror series written and directed entirely by women is in the works at The CW, according to Deadline. Black Rose Anthology will be produced by Drew Barrymore and Nancy Juvonen’s Flower Films, former co-showrunner of MTV’s Scream: The TV Series Jill Blotevogel and CBS TV Studios.

The pilot for Black Rose Anthology will be written by Blotevogel and will reportedly “explore some of humanity’s deepest fears from a woman’s unique perspective.” There will be vignettes about “guilt, jealousy, repression, paranoia, insanity, sexual obsession and survival through a modern and distinctly feminine lens.”

Black Rose Anthology will be executive produced by Blotevogel with Jamie Denenberg and Kevin Abrams from Alpine Labs, Barrymore, Juvonen, Chris Miller, Ember Truesdell, Nick Phillips, Anthony Masi and Lotti Pharriss Knowles from Flower Films.

Blotevogel was co-executive producer for the Amazon series Patriot. The CW recently ordered a backdoor pilot for a female-centric spinoff of Supernatural called Wayward Sisters focusing on Kim Rhodes‘ Sheriff Jody Mills. Supernatural showrunners Andrew Dabb, Robert Singer, Phil Sgriccia and Robert Berens are set to executive produce Wayward Sisters. Dabb and Berens are set to script the backdoor pilot. Should Wayward Sisters become a full series, it is noted that there are also plans to bring in other familiar Supernatural characters.

Drew Barrymore and Nancy Juvonen’s Flower Films was founded in 1995 and has produced films like Never Been Kissed, Charlie’s Angels, 50 First Dates, Fever Pitch, He’s Just Not That Into You and Freak Show. It’s also produced TV shows like Olive, the Other Reindeer, Tough Love Couples, Charlie’s Angels, Knife Fight and The Santa Clarita Diet, which Barrymore stars in.

James Gunn’s Starsky and Hutch series based on the ’70s cop drama has been nabbed by Amazon

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is doing a series based on the ’70s cop action series Starsky and Hutch and it’s been picked up by Amazon Studios. Gunn posted about the deal on his Facebook page. He said that he’ll be “producing alongside Neal Moritz with Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn writing.” According to THR, the show has a script to series commitment from Amazon.

Though it’s being called a reboot by the trades at the moment, in that its a new version of the TV series that ran from 1975-1979, Gunn says it’s a continuation of the idea. He said, “I started writing down some outlandish ideas for how we would handle Starsky and Hutch today – ideas that would be exciting and different and not at all what people expect. This would NOT be a reboot or a remake, but a continuation of the original series that would deconstruct the buddy cop show in a fun way. Like Guardians of the Galaxy did with the space opera, it would honor the genre while turning it inside-out. And it would definitely not be a spoof like the 2004 Starsky & Hutch movie – it would be gritty and driven by both characters and high stakes.” You can read his entire post below.

Gunn posted some other info on his Facebook page. He said that this is his first foray into television for his production company, Troll Court Entertainment. He also said that this is a joint venture between Amazon and Sony Pictures TV and Brian, Mark and James Gunn will all executive produce alongside Neal Moritz, whose Original Films has an overall deal with Sony TV. The company’s head of TV, Pavun Shetty, is also executive producing. He also explained, “The original series was created by William Blinn and produced by Spelling-Goldberg, airing on ABC from 1975 to 1979. It starred Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul as Starsky & Hutch as they protected the streets of the fictional and awesome Bay City.”

The executive producers are Jim Rowe, Wesley Coller, Curt Kanemoto, Chris Terrio and Ben Affleck.
