The Drone Trailer Asks What Happens When Tech Gets A Mind of its Own?

The Drone trailer

The Drone trailer asks what happens when tech gets a mind of its own?

Hobby drones have become a ubiquitous piece of tech in our modern world, dotting the skyline of parks and backyards everywhere. But the new horror movie The Drone asks the terrifying question: what happens when this technology develops a mind of its own? And what happens when that mind originally came from a sadistic murderer? You can check out the trailer in the post below!

The Drone centers on serial killer who transfers his consciousness into a consumer drone right before he is killed, then flies off to terrorize newlyweds Rachel (Alex Essoe, Midnighters) and Chris (John Brotherton, Fuller House) in their home. As the drone becomes increasingly obsessed with their murder, the couple must work together and fight to stop the insidious device before it destroys them both.

The film is written and directed by Jordan Rubin, who’s perhaps best known for helming the 2014 horror camp-fest Zombeavers. He’s also served as a producer on both Unfriended and Searching, two more tech-heavy horror/thrillers.

The Drone was produced by Russian production company Bazelevs, and will premiere at this year’s Slamdance Film Festival later this month in Park City, Utah.

John Krasinski Might Not Direct the Sequel to A Quiet Place

John Krasinski might not direct the sequel to A Quiet Place

Despite having some reservations about returning to the world of A Quiet Placethe film’s co-writer, director, and star John Krasinski has steadily gotten more involved in the production. While he still hasn’t said if he’ll be directing the follow-up, in an interview with The Playlist (via Empire Online), the star of Amazon’s Jack Ryan did give some hints about the forthcoming sequel. Namely that it won’t be dealing with anyone from the Abbot family this time around, and instead look at how the larger world has been impacted by these creatures that hunt using sound.

The beauty of it is that it’s the expansion of a world,” said Krasinksi. “Most sequels are about the return of a villain or a hero, and you have to build a totally new story around your favorite hero or favorite villain. [With this sequel], we actually have the world to deal with. The world is actually the star of the movie. So, this set of circumstances – how the rest of the world is dealing with this apocalyptic tragedy – is the fun of it then. That’s what drew me back.

So, rather than being a traditional sequel that continues the story we know, the world of A Quiet Place may play out more like an anthology, exploring different characters in different circumstances that have adapted to this terrifying new world.

So here I am now writing it and we’ll see if I end up directing it,” Krasinski teased. “But it’s an entertaining idea because I think for me, the cool part about this is, that it doesn’t feel like a sequel.

A Quiet Place was directed by Krasinski, who starred opposite his real-life wife Emily Blunt (Mary Poppins Returns). Noah Jupe (SuburbiconWonder) and Millicent Simmonds (Wonderstruck) rounded out the cast as a family of four that were forced to navigate their lives in silence after mysterious creatures that hunt by sound threaten their survival. If they hear you, they hunt you. Because their silence meant their survival, the film’s dialogue was kept to a minimum.

Produced by Michael Bay (Transformers) and his Platinum Dunes partners Andrew Form and Brad Fuller (OuijaThe PurgeTexas Chainsaw Massacre), A Quiet Place came from a spec script by Bryan Woods & Scott Beck that was later rewritten by Krasinski. The untitled sequel is currently slated to hit theaters on May 15, 2020.

Tidelands Season 1 Episode 4

Tidelands Season 1 Episode 4 Recap

In the previous episode of Tidelands, Calliope learned that she is half-Tidelander, Augie met a new and mysterious customer and Adrielle saw her eventual downfall as queen. What does this next installment have in store? Let’s find out as we recap Tidelands season 1 episode 4 ‘Don’t Trust Humans!’

Permission Granted

Tidelands Season 1 Episode 4

Calliope eventually managed to find the Tidelander settlement, she parked her boat and went to investigate. She was immediately attacked by a Tidelander, but Augie had followed Calliope and got the Tidelander off of Calliope. Adrielle arrived and Calliope asked for permission to stay with the Tidelanders, Adrielle granted Calliope’s request. Augie was warned not to return to the Tidelander settlement without Adrielle’s money. Dylan showed Adrielle a man he had captured following him, who worked for Gregori. Adrielle killed the man and had his body dumped where he would be found. Augie ordered his employees to find a buyer other than Gregori, as he would be bad for business. Back with the Tidelanders, Calliope learned that female Tidelanders are more powerful than males.

Visions of the Past

Tidelands Season 1 Episode 4

Augie went to Rosa and asked her for the money, but she did not have much to  give. Calliope continued to learn more about Tidelander society, including the way that Adrielle was elected queen and how Tidelanders don’t age after a certain time in their lives. Adrielle took Calliope to a spot in the woods, where Calliope was able to see the slaughter of Tidelanders that took place in the past. On his boat, Bill cracked open a secret compartment where he found a locket containing a photograph of his mother. Adrielle went back to the witch and sought another vision of the future. She quickly left when she received word that she had been given a prized piece of wood. The next morning, the police found the body of the man Adrielle had killed, but Augie was unable to identify the body so the police largely ignored the murder.

Betrayal

Tidelands Season 1 Episode 4

Corey had taken the body to the coroner, but he was quickly interrupted by some of Gregori’s men who took the body themselves. Augie was told that he would be unable to find another buyer and he decided to sell to Gregori. He planned to kill all of Gregori’s men at their upcoming deal. Corey told his superior about the stolen body, but his superior told him of the state the police force was in. Calliope returned home and was met by Corey, who told her about the murders and tried to enlist her help. Augie prepped his boat with Jared;s help, but Jared betrayed him and attempted to drown Augie. Luckily, Calliope came to help Augie and managed to free him. Augie tracked down Jared and quickly executed him. Calliope was frightened by Augie’s ruthless actions and she stormed off. Adrielle went to pick up her wood while Lamar and Dylan continued to conspire against her.
