HBO’s Silicon Valley ending with Season 6

TheWrap brings word that Silicon Valley Season 6 will be the final season of the HBO Emmy-winning, Golden Globe-nominated comedy. The announcement confirms suspicions that the series would be concluding soon following a delay on the production of Season 6 that accommodated co-showrunner Alec Berg’s duties on the series Barry.

“Silicon Valley has been a career and life highlight for us. We’ll miss it desperately, but we’ve always let Pied Piper’s journey guide the way, and Season 6 seems to be the fitting conclusion,” showrunners Mike Judge and Alec Berg said. “We are forever indebted to our incredible cast, crew, and partners at HBO. At a certain point, there’s only so much we can do to make the world a better place.”

Silicon Valley takes a comic look at the modern-day epicenter of the high-tech gold rush, where the people most qualified to succeed are the least capable of handling success. A collaboration between Mike Judge and Alec Berg, Silicon Valley’s cast includes Thomas Middleditch, Zach Woods, Kumail Nanjiani, Martin Starr, Josh Brener, Amanda Crew, Matt Ross, Suzanne Cryer, and Jimmy O. Yang. Former star TJ Miller departed the series after the fourth season.

Which Kong: Skull Island character appears in Godzilla: King of the Monsters?

Last summer it was revealed that a character from Kong: Skull Island (the 70s set second movie in the Monster-Verse) would appear in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Many theorized that the character in question would be none other than Tom Hiddleston’s James Conrad, who they thought was being played by Charles Dance.

Now that Godzilla: King of the Monsters is here though, we know which character appears, and if you blink, you’ll miss them. Hint: They’re in the photo above!

Spoilers ahead!

A brief scene about 2/3 of the way through Godzilla: King of the Monsters sees Mothra emerge from her cacoon, spreading her glorious wings. In the scene, none other than Terminator 2 star Joe Morton appears as a scientist, which seems like a random cameo from a character actor; however, Morton is actually playing Dr. Houston Brooks, the character played by Corey Hawkins in Kong: Skull Island! In the post-credit scene of Skull Island, Hawkins’ character was recruited to become a part of Monarch, and it seems like he stayed with the company four decades later.

The Godzilla sequel also stars Vera Farmiga, Kyle Chandler, Millie Bobby Brown, Bradley Whitford, Thomas Middleditch, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Aisha Hinds, and Zhang Ziyi. Michael Dougherty directs from a script he co-wrote with Zach Shields.

The Hollywood Reporter has brought word that Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of the action comic book The Old Guard has continued to expand its cast with the additions of Red Sparrow‘s Matthias Schoenaerts and Trust alum Luca Marinelli.

The duo, whose characters are currently unknown aside from being part of the lead team of mercenaries, join a cast that already includes Long Shot‘s Charlize Theron, Aladdin‘s Marwan Kenzari and If Beale Street Could Talk‘s Kiki Layne.

The Old Guard tells of a small group of soldiers, led by a woman named Andy (Theron), who are inexplicably immortal and have been working as mercenaries through the ages. The novelty of not dying long gone, the group gets a jolt in their bones when they discover the existence of a new immortal, a black woman serving in the Marines, at the same time as a nefarious organization captures their undying actions on camera.

Skydance previously ordered the adaptation in July signed Gina Prince-Blythewood to helm the project. Prince-Blythewood is most well-known for writing and directing the acclaimed romantic drama Beyond the Lights and who previously worked in the comic book industry by directing the pilot for Freeform’s Cloak and Dagger.

The Old Guard was created by Greg Rucka and artist Leandro Fernandez and tells the story of old soldiers who never die…and yet cannot seem to fade away. Trapped in an immortality without explanation, Andromache of Scythia—”Andy”—and her comrades ply their trade for those who can find—and afford—their services. But in the 21st century, immortality is a hard secret to keep, and when you live long enough, you learn that there are many fates worse than death.

Rucka will be making his feature screenplay debut with the adaptation, having previously helped script the 2008 DC Animated Universe film Batman: Gotham Knight, while having his and Steve Lieber’s graphic novel Whiteout adapted into a 2009 film of the same name starring Kate Beckinsale (Underworld), which was a critical and commercial disaster.

David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger of Skydance are set to produce. Marc Evans, Theron and her Denver and Delilah principals Beth Kono and AJ Dlx will also produce. Stan Wlodkowski and Rucka will serve as executive producers.

The Right Stuff: Patrick J. Adams to Star as John Glenn in Drama Series

The Right Stuff: Patrick J. Adams to star as John Glenn in drama series

Deadline is reporting that Patrick J. Adams (Suits, Sneaky Pete) has been cast as John Glenn in National Geographic’s upcoming scripted series The Right Stuff. The project is based on the best-selling nonfiction book written by Tom Wolfe.

Adams is best known for previously starring alongside Gabriel Macht as Mike Ross in USA’s law drama Suits. In The Right Stuff, Adams will play Maj. John Glenn, a revered test pilot and committed family man with unwavering principles. He is the only astronaut to have experienced fame before Project Mercury, and he immediately locks horns with Alan Shephard in an unrelenting fight to the first man in space.

The Right Stuff takes a look at what would become America’s first “reality show,” as ambitious astronauts and their families become instant celebrities in a competition that will either kill them or make them immortal in the quest to be a part of Project Mercury.

The first season of The Right Stuff, which uses Wolfe’s book as its starting point, starts at the height of the Cold War. To combat a national sentiment of fear and decline, the U.S. government conceives of NASA’s Project Mercury, igniting a space race with the Soviets and making instant celebrities of a handful of the military’s adrenaline-fueled test pilots. These individuals, who come to be known as the Mercury Seven, are forged into heroes long before they have achieved a single heroic act. At the heart of a historic drama populated by deeply human characters, archrivals Glenn and Shepard jockey to become the first man in space.

Subsequent seasons of The Right Stuff will carry through to the epochal Apollo Space Program, where humankind saw one of its greatest achievements — man setting foot on the moon — and missions beyond.

The series comes from Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way and Warner Horizon Scripted Television. DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson, and Will Staples are serving as executive producers. Mark Lafferty will act as showrunner and will also executive produce. David Nutter is set to direct and executive produce the premiere episode. The project was shepherded by Appian Way’s Michael Hampton.

Production on the series will begin this fall in Florida with an expected release date of 2020 where the series will premiere globally on National Geographic.
