Ahead of San Diego Comic-Con, where the teaser trailer for the film is expected to debut, filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan has revealed the first teaser poster for Glass, his upcoming sequel to both Unbreakable and Split. Check out the full image in the gallery below!

Returning for Glass are cast members Bruce Willis as David Dunn, Samuel L. Jackson asElijah Price, aka Mr. Glass, and James McAvoy as Kevin Wendell Crumb, aka The Horde. They’re joined by Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story series) as a psychiatrist who specializes in “individuals who believe they are superheroes” and who is treating the trio at a mental hospital.

Also starring in the film is Anya Taylor-Joy as Casey Cooke, the only captive to survive an encounter with The Beast, who reprises her role from Split. Plus Unbreakable’s Spencer Treat Clark and Charlayne Woodard, who reprise their roles as Dunn’s son and Price’s mother.

This riveting culmination of his worldwide blockbusters will be produced by Shyamalan and Blumhouse Production’s Jason Blum, who also produced the writer/director’s previous two films for Universal. They produce again with Ashwin Rajan and Marc Bienstock, and Steven Schneider, who will executive produce.

A Blinding Edge Pictures and Blumhouse production, Glass will be released by Universal Pictures in North America on January 18, 2019, and by Buena Vista International abroad.

Fatih Akin to direct new Firestarter adaptation

Variety reports that the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s Firestarter from Blumhouse and Universal has found its director in German filmmaker Fatih Akin. Akin is best known for In the Fade, the 2018 Golden Globe winner for “Best Foreign Language Film”, as well as having won the Cannes’ best screenplay award for The Edge of Heaven. Akin will replace Akiva Goldsman, the Academy Award winning screenwriter behind “A Beautiful Mind”, who was reported to be directing the film last year.

Scott Teems (Narcos, Rectify) has already been tapped to write the screenplay adaption of the 1980 Stephen King novel about a young girl that can create fires with her mind as a result of secret experiments performed on her parents. In the story, the girl is forced to flee from a secretive group that wants to use her abilities, known only as “The Shop.”

The book was already adapted into a film in 1984, starring Heather Locklear, Martin Sheen, Keith David and Drew Barrymore. That film got mixed reviews from film critics, with Roger Ebert declaring “The film’s crucial flaw is the lack of a strong point to the story. A little girl has her dangerous power, some government agents want to examine her, others want to destroy her, and things catch on fire. That’s about it.” We’ll see if Teems and Akin can do better with their adaptation.

Following the massive commercial and critical success of IT, studios are continuing to develop and greenlight Stephen King adaptations. Other King-based films in the works include It: Chapter Two, Doctor Sleep, Pet Sematary, and just days ago, it was reported that the screenwriters behind A Quiet Place would be adapting his story The Boogeyman.

HBO orders televangelists pilot starring John Goodman, Danny McBride

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Danny McBride will write, executive produce, direct, and star in The Righteous Gemstones, a new half hour comedy about “a world-famous televangelist family with a long tradition of deviance, greed and charitable work, all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ” for HBO. If picked up, this would mark the third HBO comedy for McBride, following the success of Eastbound and Down and Vice Principals.

The Righteous Gemstones will also star John Goodman, who will play Eli Gemstone, a stern, world-famous televangelist known for his weekly television show, global ministries and aggressive salvation techniques. McBride will play his eldest son Jesse, a man looking to branch out on his own by adapting his father’s famous teachings for a modern audience.

The project will reunite McBride with his Rough House Pictures partners Jody Hill and Gordon Green, the same trio responsible for Vice Principals and Eastbound and Down. Most recently, they worked on the Netflix film, The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter, which premieres July 6th.

Deadline reports that should HBO pick up the series after the pilot is filmed, Goodman will wait until production is finished on The Connors, the Roseanne Barr-less spinoff series, before continuing filming The Righteous Gemstones with McBride.

Jordan Peele sets sci-fi comedy anthology at YouTube

After making one of the most acclaimed and financially successful horror films both last year and of all-time, Jordan Peele has no inclinations of slowing down or taking a step back. Having co-created one of TBS’ new comedy hits The Last O.G., announcing his next writing/directorial project starring Lupita N’yongo and Winston Duke, and now the Oscar winner has a comedy sci-fi anthology series Weird City which has been ordered by YouTube for a full season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Co-created and written by Peele and Key & Peele writer Charlie Sanders, the series takes place in a metropolis city named Weird in the not-too-distant future with each of the six episodes depicting a day in the life of this city, with an emphasis on a combination of sci-fi and comedy.

“Writer/creator Sanders and I collaborated on some Key & Peele sketches that took on everything from the ‘Black Republicans’ to ‘Continental Breakfasts’ to ‘Family Matters’,” Peele said. “Now, with YouTube we present a series of comedy driven twisted-ass science fiction stories that take place in a world close to ours but just a little bit off.”

The series, which is currently aiming for a 2019 release date through YouTube Premium, will be produced by Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions and will see Adam Bernstein (Fargo) direct the first two episodes of the first season, as well as Jose Molina (The Tick) acting as showrunner. Peele originally had Weird City set at Hulu back in 2015 after developing it over a few years, and after moving his production company to Amazon Studios, the show will now debut through the Google-owned platform.

“We are thrilled to be in business with Jordan, Charlie and Jose, who have brilliantly created a highly entertaining satire that will be a timely send up of modern society,” YouTube content chief Susanne Daniels said. “We are excited to partner with Sonar Entertainment and all of the innovative storytellers behind Weird City to push boundaries and redefine what a comedy series can be.”

YouTube Premium, which used to be known as YouTube Red, is currently available for $13-a-month and offers subscribers ad-free video and music streaming, as well as access to original series including the acclaimed Karate Kid sequel, Cobra Kai, and Doug Liman-produced drama Impulse.

Star James McAvoy has taken to his Instagram to post the first behind-the-scenes Polaroids from the set of IT: Chapter Two, featuring looks at himself, Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader, Isaiah Mustafa and James Ransone, as well as the return of the original child actors Jaeden Lieberher and Jack Dylan Grazer. The main cast of IT: Chapter 2 includes James McAvoy (X-Men franchise, Split) as Bill, Jessica Chastain (Crimson Peak, The Martian) as Beverly, Bill Hader (Barry, Trainwreck) as Richie, Jay Ryan (Beauty and the Beast) as Ben and James Ransone (Generation Kill) as Eddie, with Andy Bean (Here and Now) as Stanely Uris, Isaiah Mustafa as Mike, Teach Grant (Altered Carbon, Damnation) as Henry Bowers, Jess Weixler (The Son, Chained for Life) as Bill’s wife, Xavier Dolan (Boy Erased) as Adrian Mellon, Will Beinbrink (Queen of the South) as Tom Rogan and, of course, the return of Bill Skarsgård as the clown Pennywise.

The second part of IT is written by Gary Dauberman from the book by Stephen King, and will be directed once again by Andy Muschietti. The sequel will hit theaters on September 6, 2019.

IT debuted in September of last year to the tune of $123.1 million on opening weekend, the highest opening weekend ever for a September release, for a fall release, and for a horror movie. It clocked in just $9 million behind Deadpool for the second-highest opening for an R-rated movie. The film earned over $700 million at the worldwide box office, making it the highest-grossing horror movie of all time.

Sony and Microsoft have both announced the slate of July 2018 free games that will be available to subscribing PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold members.

PlayStation Plus members will receive the psychological thriller Heavy Rain and the intense online melee action game Absolver for the PlayStation 4. For the PlayStation 3, members will receive the action game Rayman 3 HD as well as the strategy game Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess. For the PS Vita, players will receive the fantasy action game Space Overlords as well as Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma.

PlayStation Now is also running a promotion exclusively for Plus members. Between now and September 25, members who join or extend their current paid subscription will receive three months of PlayStation Now access for $29.99. The exclusive discount allows members to play PlayStation Now’s collection of 650+ PS4, PS3, and PS2 games. You can subscribe to PlayStation Plus via this link.

Xbox Live Gold members will receive four new free games — two on Xbox One and two on Xbox 360 — as part of the Games with Gold program. Members can download Assault Android Cactus for free during the month of July, with the puzzle and trivia game Death Squared available for free from July 16th to August 15th. On Xbox 360 (with Xbox One backwards compatibility), fans get Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown free from July 1 to July 16th and Splinter Cell Conviction from July 16th through July 31st. New Mile 22 red band trailer released

STXfilms has released a new restricted trailer for Mark Wahlberg and Peter Berg’s upcoming thriller Mile 22, which gives viewers a closer look at the story written by Lea Carpenter and Graham Roland. Check out the trailer now in the player below!

Mile 22 is directed by Peter Berg (Patriots Day, Deepwater Horizon, Lone Survivor) and stars Academy Award nominees Mark Wahlberg (Transformers film series, Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon) and John Malkovich (Deepwater Horizon, Being John Malkovich), as well as Lauren Cohan (The Walking Dead, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Iko Uwais (The Raid film series, Triple Threat) and Ronda Rousey (Furious 7, The Expendables).

Wahlberg stars as James Silva, an operative of the CIA’s most highly-prized and least-understood unit. Aided by a top-secret tactical command team, Silva must retrieve and transport an asset who holds life-threatening information to Mile 22 for extraction before the enemy closes in.

The screenplay was written by Lea Carpenter from a story by Graham Roland and Carpenter. The producers are Peter Berg for Film 44, Mark Wahlberg for Closest to the Hole, and Stephen Levinson for Leverage. John Logan Pierson is executive producer.

Mile 22 was shot on location in Atlanta, GA, and Bogota, Colombia. With the property already being developed across STX’s other platforms, including STXtv and STXsurreal VR, the studio and filmmaking team have also begun developing a sequel to the feature.

Mile 22 marks the fourth collaboration between Berg and Wahlberg, a pairing that has resulted in Patriots Day, Deepwater Horizon, and the Oscar-nominated Lone Survivor. The film arrives in theaters on August 17.
