Marvel Co-President offers teaser for Avengers: Infinity War
Production on the highly-anticipated Avengers: Infinity War is gearing up to begin shortly (it will shoot back-to-back with the upcoming fourth Avengers movie, which is still without a title). An interesting tease for the film popped up on Twitter today as Marvel Co-President Louis D’Esposito posted a photo of the cover to the Infinity Gauntlet comic series with a simple message.

What makes this interesting is that the Infinity Gauntlet series was the first chapter in the line wide crossover with “Infinity War” being the second. Could we be seeing elements of both of these stories playing out in the same movie? The Infinity Gauntlet tells the story of Thanos assembling the titular glove with the Infinity Gems (stones in the films) and turning the Marvel Universe upside down, even erasing some of the heroes from existence. As a result, the remaining heroes must gather together with Adam Warlock to defeat him, but it doesn’t go so well at first.
The Infinity War storyline picks up later when Adam Warlock has removed the good and evil inside of him to become a being of pure logic, though his evil side reforms as Magus to cause even more galactic trouble. It’s complicated.
One thing to keep in mind, however, is how Marvel Studios has gone about adapting fan-favorite storylines into the films such as The Winter Soldier and Civil War, which shared a name with their comic book basis and not much else. However, with production on the films beginning soon, expect more details on the culmination of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to begin to find their way online.
Directors Anthony and Joe Russo, who return after Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War, will direct both of the Avengers features, which are being written by screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. Both films will also be shot entirely with IMAX cameras.
It remains to be seen which characters will be the primary focus of the films, though we do know that Captain Marvel will appear in the movies ahead of her solo movie in 2019 and that the film will feature the combined forces of The Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War is slated for a release in theaters on May 4, 2018, with its follow-up set to open on May 3, 2019.
