At the final day of the Television Critics Association press event, creator Ryan Murphy spoke about the upcoming installment of American Crime StoryThe Assassination of Gianni Versace. (The critically acclaimed The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story was the first and Katrina: American Crime Story, which was originally scheduled as the second installment, will now be the third.)

Murphy spoke to the crowd of reporters, saying that The Assassination of Gianni Versace will be told in reverse, with the murder happening first, and the explanation of how it happened to follow, according to THR. He also spoke about the homophobia in the country at the time and how it contributed to the murder. He said, “We’re trying to talk about a crime within a social idea. Versace, who was [Andrew Cunanan’s] last victim, did not have to die. One of the reasons he was able to make his way across the country and pick off these victims, many of whom were gay, was because of homophobia at the time.” Cunanan killed at least for people before he murdered Versace on July 15, 1997.

Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Brad Falchuk and Tom Rob Smith are Executive Producers of The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.
