Neil Gaiman signs overall deal with Amazon Studios

Deadline reports that author Neil Gaiman (Sandman, American Gods), has signed an overall deal with Amazon Studios to create original content for their streaming service that airs in over 200 countries worldwide. The deal is announced ahead of the launch of his new series Good Omens, which will star David Tennant (Doctor Who) and Michael Sheen (Apostle).

When talking about the deal, Gaiman said “What decided me was how much I enjoyed working with the Amazon team on Good Omens. They are smart, gloriously enthusiastic people, who weren’t afraid of Good Omens being different but who were as determined as I was to make something as unique and exciting as it is. I’m thrilled to know that I’ll have a home at Amazon in the future where I can make television that nobody’s seen before, that’s quite unlike Good Omens, but just as unusual and just as much fun.

Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios, echoed Gaiman’s sentiment, saying that “Neil Gaiman is a phenomenally talented writer, who creates worlds that are compelling, multi-dimensional and narratively unique. His fans are ardent, vocal and passionate and we are fortunate to bring his gifted vision to the Prime Video audience.”

This is the latest in a string of high-profile deals the streaming service has struck with noteworthy creators. Previously, Jordan Peele (Get Out), Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe), Reed Morano (The Handmaid’s Tale) and Bryan Cogman (Game of Thrones).

In the meantime, Gaiman’s Good Omens will premiere on Amazon Prime in October 2019.
