Stranger Things 3 premiere date set for July!

Happy New Year! As the clock ticked down to midnight, Netflix officially announced the Stranger Things 3 premiere date revealing that the series will return on July 4, 2019! Check out the teaser and the first poster for the new episodes below!

Titles for the new episodes include: “Suzie, Do You Copy?, “The Mall Rats,” “The Case of the Missing Lifeguard,” “The Sauna Test,” “The Source,” “The Birthday,” “The Bite” and “The Battle of Starcourt.”

Stranger Things received 18 Emmy nominations last year (with five wins) and was honored with the 2017 SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, as well as the 2017 Norman Felton Producer of the Year Award in Episodic Television — Drama from the Producers Guild of America.

The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part reunites the heroes of Bricksburg in an all new action-packed adventure to save their beloved city. It’s been five years since everything was awesome and the citizens are facing a huge new threat: LEGO DUPLO invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than they can rebuild. The battle to defeat them and restore harmony to the LEGO universe will take Emmet, Lucy, Batman and their friends to faraway, unexplored worlds, including a strange galaxy where everything is a musical. It will test their courage, creativity and Master Building skills, and reveal just how special they really are.

Reprising their fan-favorite characters from The LEGO Movie are Chris Pratt as Emmet, Elizabeth Banks as Lucy (aka Wyldstyle), Will Arnett as LEGO Batman, Nick Offerman as Metal Beard, and Alison Brie as Unikitty. They are joined by Tiffany Haddish, Stephanie Beatriz, and Arturo Castro as, respectively, new characters Queen Watevra WaNabi, Sweet Mayhem and Ice Cream Cone.

Animation vet Mike Mitchell (Trolls, Shrek Forever After, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water) will direct The LEGO Movie Sequel. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who wrote and directed The LEGO Movie, wrote the first draft of the sequel script based on a story by Lord, Miller, Jared Stern and Michelle Morgan. It was most recently re-written by BoJack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg. In addition, Lord and Miller will serve as producers, alongside returning producers Dan Lin and Roy Lee.

The sequel will hit theaters on February 8, 2019.

American Gods stars Ricky Whittle (The 100, Austenland) as Shadow Moon, Ian McShane (Deadwood, Ray Donovan) as Mr. Wednesday, Emily Browning (Sucker Punch, Legend) as Laura Moon, and Pablo Schreiber (Orange is the New Black) as Mad Sweeney. Other cast members include Yetide Badaki (Aquarius, Masters of Sex) as Bilquis, Bruce Langley (Deadly Waters) as Technical Boy, Crispin Glover (Back to the Future) as Mr. World, and Orlando Jones (Madiba, Sleepy Hollow) as Mr. Nancy.

Make the climb in the new Captain Marvel TV spot

Following last week’s new spot, Marvel Studios has released another new TV spot for Captain Marvel, featuring some new pieces of footage from the highly anticipated film. Check it out in the player below!

Captain Marvel follows Carol Danvers (Brie Larson, Room) as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, the film is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Brie Larson is joined in the film by Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, with Annette Bening, and Jude Law. Reprising their roles from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy are Djimon Hounsou and Lee Pace, and returning once again to a Marvel Studios film will be Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson.

Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel is directed by the writing/directing team of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, whose credits include Mississippi Grind and Half Nelson. Kevin Feige is the producer of Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jonathan Schwartz, Patty Whitcher and Stan Lee are executive producers, with Lars Winther serving as co-producer/first assistant director and David Grant serving as co-producer.

Captain Marvel will debut in theaters on March 8, 2019.

Outlander Season 4 Episode 9 Recap

In the previous episode of Starz’s Outlander, Stephen Bonnet raped Brianna after she turned Roger away. Meanwhile, Jamie thwarted a plan against Murtagh and the Regulators. In Outlander season 4 episode 9, Brianna found Jamie and Claire and returned with them to Fraser’s Ridge while Roger left with on the Gloriana.

Disturbance

Brianna found Jamie in Wilmington after Lizzie heard about what happened at the theater. He brought her to Claire, and after a happy reunion, she told them about the fire. Brianna met Young Ian, whom Lizzie liked, and he told her about the incident with Stephen Bonnet. At the cabin, Murtagh was waiting since he couldn’t stay in Wilmington. They told family stories around the table, and Brianna joined their life in Fraser’s Ridge for a couple of months. Jamie learned that Frank taught Brianna to shoot. Brianna discovered that “Bree” meant “a disturbance”. Brianna told Claire that Frank had known about the fire and that she had gone back to Jamie.

Claire suggested Jamie take Brianna hunting, so they could spend time together. They found a bee hive, which they brought back. Jamie explained how grateful he was for Frank and told Brianna she could call him “Da”. Jamie wished Brianna could stay, but Claire insisted the ’70s would be safer and would provide more opportunities for her.

Trauma

Claire figured out that Brianna was pregnant. Brianna confirmed she was two months along. She confessed that the baby might not be Roger’s. She told Claire about the man who raped her the same night she was with Roger. And Claire told Jamie. While in Brianna’s shelter, Claire found her original wedding ring from Jamie. She confronted Brianna, who admitted that it was Stephen Bonnet who had raped her. Brianna hadn’t mentioned him for fear that Jamie would blame himself and go after Bonnet.

Before Journey’s End

Roger had gone back to the tavern to meet Brianna, but she hadn’t come down yet. Stephen Bonnet was still there, and he reminded Roger of his duties. The Gloriana’s next port was Philadelphia, and if he wasn’t on the ship when it departed, he would lose a limb. He forced Roger to leave with them, but Brianna assumed he had sailed back to Scotland to go back through the stones.

When Roger was finally able to leave, Bonnet paid him his wages. He asked for some to be paid in a gem or two for passage through the stones, and Bonnet agreed. Roger went to Fraser’s Ridge to find Brianna. Unfortunately, Lizzie was out with Young Ian. She thought that it was Roger who had raped Brianna and told Ian and Jamie. Jamie left to beat him and told Lizzie not to tell Claire or Brianna. Some tenants passed by on the road, so he told Ian to get rid of him.

Aquaman holds the high ground with second #1 weekend at box office

Warner Bros.’ Aquaman held onto the #1 spot at the domestic box office, dipping just 24% and adding another $51.5 million to its domestic haul. The film now sits at $188 million domestically, and is within striking distance of becoming WB’s highest grossing release of the year (currently A Star is Born with $200 million). Internationally the film added another $85 million to its tally for an international total of $560 million and a worldwide total of $748 million, besting previous DCEU entries Justice League ($657 million), Man of Steel ($668 million), and Suicide Squad ($746 million). Sitting ahead of the film is just Wonder Woman with $821.8 million and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with $873.6 million. Directed by James Wan, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman.

Walt Disney Studios’ Mary Poppins Returns maintained its second place position, bringing in $28 million, a 19% increase from last weekend. The sequel now sits at $98.9 million domestically. Internationally the film added another $28.9 million to its tally for a total of $74.4 million, giving the film a global total of $173.3 million. Though the film had a soft opening, comparable to Disney’s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms ($20.35 million) and just behind Disney’s Christopher Robin ($24.585 million), the sequel is on its way to out grossing both of those by a significant margin.The cast of Mary Poppins Returns includes Emily Blunt, Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer and Julie Walters, with Colin Firth and Meryl Streep. Dick Van Dyke also returns for the film, directed by Rob Marshall.

Paramount’s Bumblebee held onto third place, dipping just 5% and bringing in $20.5 million and giving it a domestic total of $66 million. Internationally, Bumblebee added another $45.7 million to its international total which is now $90 million. Globally the Transformers solo film has brought in $156 million. Directed by Travis Knight, the film stars Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena, with the voices of Dylan O’Brien, Peter Cullen, Angela Bassett, and Justin Theroux.

Columbia Pictures/Sony Pictures Animation’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse held onto fourth place, adding another $18.315 million to its total and bringing its domestic haul to $103.64 million. Internationally the film took in $27.4 million across 60 markets for an international total of $109.6 million and giving it a global total of $233.24 million. Directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman, Spider-Verse features the voices of Shameik Moore, Jake Johnson, Hailee Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali, Brian Tyree Henry, Lily Tomlin, Luna Lauren Velez, Zoë Kravitz, John Mulaney, Kimiko Glenn with Nicolas Cage, Kathryn Hahn and Liev Schreiber.

Warner Bros.’ The Mule, the latest directorial and acting effort from Clint Eastwood, brought in $11 million for the weekend. The film now sits at $60.738 million domestically.

Annapurna Pictures Dick Cheney biopic Vice, which opened on Christmas day, brought in $7.79 million for the weekend, landing it in sixth place. The film now sits at $17.697 million domestically. Directed by Adam McKay, the film’s ensemble cast includes Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Steve Carrell, Sam Rockwell, Jesse Plemons, Alison Pill, Lily Rabe, Tyler Perry, Justin Kirk, Lisagay Hamilton, Shea Whigham, and Eddie Marsan.

Columbia Pictures’ Holmes & Watson, which also opened December 25, brought in $7.3 million on the traditional three day weekend, but now sits at $19.7 million after six days. Written and directed by Etan Cohen, the film is produced by Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Jimmy Miller and Clayton Townsend. Chris Henchy, Jessica Elbaum and M. Riley serve as executive producers. The film stars Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Rebecca Hall, Rob Brydon, Kelly Macdonald and Ralph Fiennes.

STX Films’ Second Act fell to eighth place but managed an 11% increase, bringing in $7.2 million. Total the film now sits at $21.76 million domestically with $6.6 million from international markets, giving it a $28.3 million worldwide gross. Directed by Peter Segal, the rom-com stars Jennifer Lopez, Vanessa Hudgens, Leah Remini, and Milo Ventimiglia.

Kevin Feige teases the ‘longform’ narratives Marvel can bring to Disney+

It’s no secret that the Marvel shows in development for Disney+ will be created at the hands of Marvel Studios and not the Marvel Television division. Those shows include shows for Loki, Scarlet Witch & Vision, and Winter Soldier & Falcon, and they’ll see the return of the actors who played them in the feature films for the TV spin-offs. Speaking with Variety, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige talked up the potential for the shows on Disney+, saying (via SlashFilm):

“When we announced ten movies and people asked ‘Well what about these other things?’ the previous stance would be ‘We only have a certain number of slots to make movies per year.’ That’s still true but we have another outlet that I think will be very unique and very special….We are going to tell stories for the streaming service that we wouldn’t be able to tell in a theatrical experience — a longer-form narrative, that’s what comics are, it’s about as longform a narrative as exists. But also maintaining that theatrical experience, which is our bread and butter, and the lines around the block, if you’re lucky.”

In other Marvel Studios news, Feige opened up about the impending return of the X-Men and the Fantastic Four to Marvel Studios, pending the finalization of Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox.

“We’ve been told it’s looking very, very good and could happen in the first six months of next year,” said Feige. “The notion of the characters coming back is great. It’s nice when a company that created all these characters can have access to all those characters. It’s unusual not to. But in terms of actually thinking about it and actually planning things, we haven’t started that yet.”

Bird Box hits 45 million views in one week according to Netflix

Days after the original film’s release on the streaming service, Netflix has announced that Bird Box has been viewed by 45,037,125 Netflix accounts. giving it the best first 7 days ever for a Netflix movie.

Netflix has never been one to share much information about their viewing metrics however, and details are still sparse about what counts as a “view” for the feature film (it’s unclear if accounts had to watch the entire film for it to be a view, or if only part of the film has to be seen). This does mark the first time that Netflix has revealed actual numbers for its original programming, stay tuned as we learn more about the success of Bird Box!

Runaways Season 2 Episode 4 Recap

Molly is desperate for a connection in Runaways season 2 episode 4. While the majority of the group wants nothing to do with new arrival Topher, Molly hopes that he has answers about her own abilities, which he seems to possess as well. Karolina is the lone member of the group to take Molly’s side, stating that Topher is like them, and if they turn their backs on him, then they are no better than their parents. After a brief discussion, it is agreed that Topher can stay the night with Old Lace watching over him and they’ll figure out a more permanent solution in the morning.

PRIDE

Dale and Stacey have a serum that Jonah used to save Victor last season, made from Jonah’s DNA. The two believe that they have reverse-engineered the serum to kill Jonah, but need to test it first. Using a drone, the two secure a sample from whatever the creature/substance is at the bottom of the hole at the dig site. Injecting the serum kills the sample, but also triggers another earthquake. Before the two can leave the dig site, they are spotted by Jonah and Karolina.

Runaways

Topher makes a case for his presence by providing breakfast and explaining that he is used to surviving on the streets while they are clearly not. In addition to attempting to appeal to the group at large, Topher tries to connect with them separately, including Nico. Alex has built a wall connecting everything that they believe PRIDE is responsible for doing. According to Alex, the first step is shutting down the dig site. He believes he can do it, but he requires a more powerful computer to do so. The kids put Topher to the test, enlisting him to help them steal a computer form the lab at Atlas Academy.

On the ride to the school, Nico discovers that Topher’s abilities come from a substance he keeps in a vial and applies to his skin. He assumes that the rest of the kids use the same to give them their powers. While Topher is trying to make nice with Nico and win her over, she steals his vial.

The earthquake throws a complication into the plan at Atlas Academy. With the school on earthquake protocol, Alex and Chase go to steal the computer. Nico and Molly attempt to get Topher out before he is discovered by the school staff. Gert slips away and goes to the nurse’s office to try and steal her meds, but she is caught. The nurse places a call about Gert, signaling the PRIDE that their kids are at the school. The kids manage to get away and Topher reunites with them with the computer they wanted.

Jonah

Jonah is deteriorating at an accelerated rate as work on the box plods along. He reaches out to Karolina, who lies to Nico in order to meet with him. Jonah takes Karolina to the dig site, telling her that the answers to who and what he is–and what she is–await them at the bottom of the hole. Both glowing, they descend into the hole.

Amazon Prime Video has announced that the Mammoth Screen and Agatha Christie Limited series The ABC Murders will make its US premiere on February 1, 2019 on the streaming service. The adaptation of the novel of the same name will debut on BBC One in the UK.

The ABC Murders is the second of three dramatic series adaptations from Agatha Christie Limited for Prime Video in the US. Adapted by Sarah Phelps (The Casual Vacancy, The Crimson Field), the three-part limited series stars two-time Academy Award-nominee John Malkovich (Being John Malkovich) as one of literature’s most famous detectives, Hercule Poirot.

It’s 1933 and a killer travels the length and breadth of Britain via the railway network. The killer uses the alias ABC, and strikes in a methodical pattern, leaving a copy of the ABC railway guide at the scene of each of murder. As Poirot (John Malkovich) attempts to investigate he is thwarted on every front. If he is to match his most cunning nemesis, everything about him will be called into question: his authority, his integrity, his identity.

The ABC Murders also stars Rupert Grint (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows), Andrew Buchan (All the Money in the World), Anya Chalotra (Wanderlust), Eamon Farren (Twin Peaks), Jack Farthing (Poldark), Tara Fitzgerald (Game of Thrones), Shirley Henderson (Bridget Jones’s Baby), Bronwyn James (Harlots), Freya Mavor (The White Queen), and Michael Shaeffer (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story).

The series is directed by Alex Gabassi and produced by Farah Abushwesha.

Sony Pictures has announced that the Mr. Rogers biopic starring Tom Hanks has officially been titled A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. Marielle Heller (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) directs the film which is scheduled for release on October 18, 2019.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood tells the story of the real-life friendship that blossomed between the beloved Fred Rogers and cynical journalist Tom Junod (Matthew Rhys, The Americans).  The film will see the cynical journalist begrudgingly accepting an assignment to write a profile piece on the beloved icon and finds his perspective on life transformed, carrying the potential for a heart-warming story that could rival 2013’s drama Saving Mr. Banks, also starring Hanks.

The screenplay was written by Micah Fitzerman-Blue & Noah Harpster (Transparent, Beautiful Ruins) and is directed by Marielle Heller. The movie also stars Chris Cooper (The Town) as Junod’s father. Marc Turtletaub and Peter Saraf of Big Beach will produce alongside Youree Henley (The Beguiled, 20th Century Woman).

Leah Holzer of Big Beach will executive produce, along with Fitzerman-Blue and Harpster. The project originated from a true story developed by Fitzerman-Blue and Harpster, first appearing on the Black List in 2013.
