ABC in talks with Marvel to develop new female-led superhero series
With ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD officially set to conclude next year with the show’s upcoming seventh season, the network is currently looking to adapt a new Marvel series that will fill the impending void that Agents of SHIELD will leave behind.
According to Deadline, ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke has revealed that the network is in talks with Marvel about developing and producing a new project which will be centered on a female superhero.
“I have spoken to Marvel, and we are in active talks about one project in particular,” Burke said. Further details about the potential project’s plot are still being kept under wraps but she described the show’s lead character as “something brand new, mostly.”

The potential project is quite similar to the untitled Marvel show that ABC has given a production commitment to last year with Young Avengers and Wonder Woman writer Allan Heinberg writing the script and developing the series for the network. It was reported that Heinberg’s series will be focusing on “female characters with superpowers,” and that the drama will be utilizing “lesser known Marvel characters.”
It remains to be seen which Marvel characters they’re referring to, but given her recent creation and popularity among fans, Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel (long rumored to be making her way to the big or small screen) would be a likely bet.
