The Ver. 2.0.0 update will see Link and the Master Sword power up exclusively available in the 8-bit Super Mario Bros. levels and see Mario transform into the hero and adopt new moves including attacking with the sword, shooting arrows and dropping bombs. After seeing Mario characters Piranha Plants and Goombas crossover into The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Nintendo is flipping the course for its game creation title as Link comes to platforming title.

With his arrows, Link can shoot distant switches that Mario would not be able to reach, with his downward thrust move with the sword defeating protected enemies including the spike-covered Spinies. Link’s bombs also allow some walls that would normally be impassable by Mario and friends to be blown up and clear a new path.
In addition to Link, the new update includes additions such as the Dash Block, which gives Mario a major speed burst when stepped on in the Super Mario 3D World style; frozen coins, which can only be released if melted by fireballs or other fire elements; P blocks, which will offer a switch that turns the blocks into hard platforms for a temporary time, or vice-versa. The new update also includes the classic enemies Spike and Pokey.

The update also adds a new mode entitled Ninji Speedruns, which sees players take on a timed challenge in courses created by Nintendo exclusively for the mode. Other players’ ghosts will run alongside players as they compete against rivals around the world and offer players paths to gradually improve their performance. Each speedrun event will run for about a week with new courses distributed periodically.
