The South Korean zombie action thriller Train to Busan blew audiences away both domestically and internationally, earning rave reviews for its blend of fast-paced action, social commentary and terrifying portrayal of the undead. A year after director Yeon Sang-ho stated he was working on a sequel, it appears it’s already been wrapped and could be hitting screens overseas this summer, according to Bloody Disgusting.

Not much is currently known about the film’s cast or if Park Joo-suk is returning to script the follow-up entitled Peninsula, but the synopsis currently reads:

The film will revisit the same zombie virus that was seen in the original movie, except this time the focus will be expanded to the entire Korean peninsula.”

The distribution company has reportedly set a release date in its home country for an August 12, 2020 release date, while no plans have currently been set for its international release.

Train to Busan was directed by Sang-ho and followed the story of a workaholic businessman and father who accompanies his doe-eyed daughter on the titular train ride to see her mother at the very same time that a malevolent virus breaks out, turning the populace into ravenous, milk-eyed ghouls. When one of those blood-sucking zombies gets on the train, Hell is unleashed and the father must team up with a gaggle of survivors to fight the dead and protect his child.
