Vicarious Visions to Change Name After Merging with Blizzard

Video game developer Vicarious Visions will be losing its name as the company fully merges with Blizzard Entertainment, according to a recent report from Polygon.

The developer was officially merged with Blizzard Entertainment in January, where it worked on the recently released Diablo 2: Resurrected. While the company had been working with Blizzard for some time now, the merger shifted their focus to only working on Blizzard titles.

According to the report, Activision Blizzard informed the employees of Vicarious Visions earlier this week that the studio would be losing its name. The report also mentions that employees within the company were under the impression that despite the merger, Vicarious Visions would be able to keep its name and operate as its own studio.

However, during a recent town hall meeting, the news was confirmed to employees. It’s noted that some employees are speculating that the studio could be renamed Blizzard Albany, as that’s where the studio office is located. While some employees were said to be “disappointed” by the news, none seemed to be too surprised.

Prior to their work with Activision Blizzard, Vicarious Visions — which was founded in 1991 — produced some incredibly popular titles, including the recent Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 remaster.
