Netflix Games Kicks Off Today With 5 Games

Netflix has been talking about putting video games on its platform and has been in certain countries. But now it is rolling out that feature more widely. Starting today on Android devices, subscribers will be able to download a total of five video games, a couple of which are based off Netflix properties.

Netflix announced this move on its website. Everyone with a Netflix account can access these titles as a part of their subscription and every user on that account can get them, too. However, adults can set passwords so children can’t access the titles. Many will be playable offline so a constant connection may not be required. If players don’t see the game’s tab in their Netflix app on Android, they can visit the Google Play Store and manually search for each game. The first five games are:

  • Stranger Things: 1984
  • Stranger Things 3: The Game
  • Shooting Hoops
  • Card Blast
  • Teeter Up

Stranger Things: 1984 is a mobile title that came out in 2017 before the show’s second season and is a retro-style beat-em-up. Stranger Things 3: The Game had a wider release on more platforms and was widely panned (it has a 61 on OpenCritic) and was also a beat-em-up sort of game. Shooting Hoops is exactly what it sounds like — a mobile game about shooting basketballs — but players user a gun to shoot the basketball into the hoop. Card Blast is a typical, casual card game and Teeter (Up) sees players tilt platforms to get a ball into a hole.

These five are mostly quite different and reflect Netflix’s stance on having something for everyone, “whether you’re a beginner or a lifelong gamer.” And while five mobile games can only do so much, Netflix promised that more were coming “in the months ahead.”
