Starz has officially decided to renew Michael Waldron’s hit pro wrestling drama Heels for a second season, which will begin its production next year. In addition, Deadline brings word that Trey Tucker, and Robby Ramos, who have been playing the respective roles of Bobby Pin and Diego Cottonmouth, have been promoted from recurring to series regular. The renewal comes after nearly a month since the critically-acclaimed series had concluded its first 8-episode season.
“It’s clear from the critical and fan acclaim that the stories and characters from the Duffy Wrestling League have made a connection with audiences bringing a community that is not often found to premium TV,” President and CEO of Starz, Jeffrey Hirsch said in a statement. “I’m excited for our amazing cast and executive producers to get back into the ring together for a second season.”

Heels is written and created by Michael Waldron (Loki, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness), with Mike O’Malley serving as the showrunner. The series stars Stephen Amell (Arrow), Alexander Ludwig (Vikings), Alison Luff (New Amsterdam), Mary McCormack (West Wing), Kelli Berglund (Now Apocalypse), Allen Maldonado (Black-ish), two-time Super Bowl champion James Harrison, AEW star CM Punk, and Chris Bauer (The Wire).
“The series tells the story about the men and women who chase their dreams in the world of small town pro wrestling,” reads the synopsis. “Set in a close-knit Georgia community, it follows a family-owned wrestling promotion as two brothers and rivals war over their late father’s legacy. In the ring, somebody must play the good guy and somebody must play their nemesis, the heel. But in the real world, those characters can be hard to live up to — or hard to leave behind.”
