The erotic drama Emmanuelle has officially wrapped production, with Deadline reporting the film has also added Naomi Watts to the cast.
Watts will join the film and star alongside lead Noémie Merlant (Portrait Of A Lady On Fire), Will Sharpe (The White Lotus) as the male lead, Jamie Campbell Bower (Stranger Things), Chacha Huang (Money Heist) and Anthony Wong (Infernal Affairs).
A first look image for the film has also been released, which showcases Merlant in bed. You can see that below:
What do we know about the Emmanuelle movie?
The film is said to be inspired by the character and world created by writer Emmanuelle Arsan — real name Marayat Rollet-Andriane.
Rollet-Andriane wrote under the pseudonym of her character to pen a voyage of sexual self-discovery across a series of books. The first book, titled Emmanuelle (or Emmanuelle: The Joys of a Woman) was originally released in 1967.
According to Deadline’s report, plot details for the film are being kept under wraps as of now.
This isn’t the first time that a film based on Emmanuelle has been made. The novels inspired a series of films throughout the 1970s; many of these starred Sylvia Kristel, whose career was arguably defined by the role. Producers say, however, this new take will “deviate” from those pictures somewhat.
