Michael Haneke’s Happy End Acquired by Sony Pictures Classics
Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they have acquired the North American and Latin American rights to Academy Award-winning filmmaker Michael Haneke’s Happy End. Written and directed by Haneke, the French production wrapped in late August.
“All around us, the world, and we, in its midst, blind.” The film is a snapshot from the life of a bourgeois European family.
Happy End stars Jean-Louis Trintignant, Isabelle Huppert, Mathieu Kassovitz and Toby Jones. Huppert and Trintignant both starred in Haneke’s Amour, which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Feature in 2012 and earned four nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Actress.
The film is produced by Margaret Menegoz and co-produced by Stefan Arndt and Dr. Veit Heiduschka, who previously co-produced Amour and White Ribbon together.
