Original Planet of the Apes character to appear in War for the Planet of the Apes
20th Century Fox has debuted a new War for the Planet of the Apes production painting in Entertainment Weekly featuring the little blonde girl shown in the trailer. More importantly, the magazine reveals that the girl is in fact a young version of Nova, the mute primitive human woman played by Linda Harrison in both the original Planet of the Apes and its apocalyptic sequel Beneath the Planet of the Apes. This is sure to make fans of the original five-movie cycle giddy, and help further connect the reboot series with its progenitor as opposed to being a simple wink to those films. Whether Nova will continue to be an important force in the reboot series remains to be seen, but if she gets older in Part 4 it could become a sought-after role for a rising starlet. “The battle is not just between the humans and the apes, but in Caesar’s soul,” says director Matt Reeves. “The girl is his pull back to his empathy and — for lack of a better word — his human side.”
In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.
The film stars Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, Terry Notary and Karin Konoval. War for the Planet of the Apes opens nationwide on July 14, 2017.
