Universal Pictures has plans to develop Blond Ambition, a Madonna biopic
With the massive box office success of F. Gary Gray‘s NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton, it’s no surprise that Universal Pictures would be looking at developing another feature film based on a major name in the music industry. The Hollywood Reporter today brings word that the studio has secured the rights to Blond Ambition, a Madonna biopic script from newcomer Elyse Hollander. Blond Ambition topped the 2016 “Black List” of unproduced screenplays with the following official logline:
In 1980s New York, Madonna struggles to get her first album released while navigating fame, romance, and a music industry that views women as disposal.

Born Madonna Louise Ciccone, Madonna released her eponymous first album in 1982 and went on to become the best selling female artist of all time (as well as the fourth best selling artist overall, behind only The Beatles, Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley).
It should be noted that, while today’s trade report spells the title as Blonde Ambition, the script was originally listed as Blond Ambition (without an “e”). The latter, however, is the way that Madonna titled her 1990 tour.
Blond Ambition, which does not yet have a director, will be produced by Michael De Luca alongside Brett Ratner and his RatPac Entertainment and John Zaozirny and his Bellvue Productions.

Universal’s modestly budgeted Straight Outta Compton, released in 2015, grossed more than $200 million at the worldwide box office.
Who would you like to see headline Blond Ambition as a young Madonna? Is there anyone in particular that you’d like to see sit in the director’s chair on this one? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
