Remote Control: Classic ’80s sci-fi romp screens in 35mm at the Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn with director Jeff Lieberman in attendance
If you’re in the New York area on May 15th at 7pm and want to see something really weird and cool, get thine arse to the Alamo Drafthouse Brooklyn (445 Albee Square West) and buckle in for a movie that will make your eyeballs spin (and in some cases…roll!). Eccentric NYC filmmaker Jeff Lieberman (Squirm, Just Before Dawn) will be at the theater screening his rare and deeply strange 1988 sci-fi satire Remote Control , a rare 35mm film presentation.
Remote Control celebrates the heyday of video stores and pre-dates the Ring films in its tale of an evil VHS. It’s a stylish and loving send up of old sci-fi, with a cast of eccentric characters played by Kevin Dillon (Entourage), Jennifer Tilly (Bride of Chucky, the upcoming Cult of Chucky), and Deborah Goodrich (Goodrich will also be in attendance at the show). Remote Control is begging for a reboot in these times of “instant watch”, but for now, you’ll have to settle for a revisit to the days of browsing tapes and getting freaked out. And hey! You don’t even have to rewind the tape!
Jeff Lieberman’s forty-year career in the motion picture and television industries extends over a wide variety of productions. He has garnered numerous awards including the Emmy, CableACE, three Cine Golden Eagles, Chicago Film Festival Golden Hugo, and Gold medals at the Atlanta and Revena Film Festivals. His feature films have screened as official selections at the London, Edinburgh, and Tribeca Film Festivals as well as numerous fantasy film festivals around the world. And then he made Squirm in 1976 and the rest is history.
Remote Control rickets are available for purchase via the Alamo Drafthouse website. See you at the show!
