10 Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers Pairings We Want to See in Infinity War

What Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers crossovers are you looking forward to? Here's our list of the most anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers crossovers.

Here’s ten Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers team-ups we want to see in Infinity War!

This week, fans will welcome Marvel’s cosmic misfits back into their lives with James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. And while the Guardians have yet to make it to Earth, that’s going to change in a big way when Avengers: Infinity War rolls into theaters next year. The next two Avengers movies are going to close out Marvel Studios’ “Phase Three” films and essentially tie together every movie in the MCU. That’s why Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, and the Guardians will all be appearing alongside the Avengers as they collectively take on the Mad Titan known as Thanos.

In the comic book realm, there are actually a few precedents for this. In the ‘70s, the Guardians of the Galaxy from the year 3000 joined the Avengers to take on the cosmically-powerful Michael Korvac. There have been a few modern Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers crossovers as well, including a team up against Thanos.

Crossovers are commonplace in comics, but on the big screen, nothing on this scale has really been attempted before. Even The Avengers movie was unthinkable until just a few years ago. Directors Anthony and Joe Russo are really going to have their hands full as they attempt to juggle this many characters in a single film. The very last thing that we want is for the Guardians to be lost in the shuffle. Unlike the Avengers, some of the Guardians have a very personal stake in taking down Thanos. Those stories need to be addressed in these films because there won’t be another opportunity to pay off those connections.

Ahead of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’s release on May 5th, CS has put together a list of Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers pairings, team ups, and battles that we want to see in Avengers: Infinity War. There’s a good chance that some of these will come to pass, but we’re definitely excited about the possibilities!

Let us know your own most anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers pairings in the comments below!

Groot vs. Hulk

First on our Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers teamup list is Groot and Hulk!

Earlier this year, Vin Diesel indicated that he can’t wait for Groot to take on the Hulk. Of the Guardians, Groot is really the only who could last a few minutes against an enraged Hulk… but probably not for too long. Naturally, this is no job for Baby Groot, but we’re certain that Groot’s larger form will be making a comeback sooner rather than later.

Drax and Thor

Drax and Thor would make one great Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers team-up!

Drax (Dave Bautista) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) have crossed paths a few times in the comics, but not quite in this way. Unlike their Marvel Universe counterparts, the MCU’s Drax and Thor are presented in a more comedic light. They simply don’t fit in with their teammates as well as they may have thought. They’re both outsiders among the outsiders, and they may not even realize it. But that’s why they may gravitate towards each other. Both Thor and Drax are skilled warriors, and they could conceivably form a bond based on that connection while hilariously amusing the audience with their unexpected reactions and assumptions about life on Earth.

Star-Lord and Iron Man

Star-Lord and Iron Man is another great potential Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers crossover.

This pairing should be interesting, because when Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) left Earth as a young boy, there really weren’t any superheroes in the public eye. We doubt that Peter Quill knew about Hank Pym’s skills as the original Ant-Man or much about the hidden history of S.H.I.E.L.D. and other enhanced individuals. As far as the general public of this world is concerned, Tony Stark’s Iron Man is the first modern superhero that anyone ever heard of…and once Quill finds out about this, then he’s gonna want to meet the Iron Man.

Whether Tony Stark would get along with Peter Quill is another matter. Stark always seems to be driven by his inner child, and Quill is the poster boy for arrested development. It’s more likely that Quill would annoy Stark than anything else. But that’s one Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers team-up that would still be fun to watch.

Gamora vs. Black Widow

Would you like to see Gamora vs Black Widow as a Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers crossover?

It may be cliché for two of the leading female characters to fight, but it simply makes too much sense to pass up. Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) is one of the deadliest women on the planet, and Gamora (Zoe Saldana) is supposed to be one of the deadliest women in the galaxy. They are both exceptional fighters, and any battle between them should be amazing. Of course, we’d happily accept a Gamora and Black Widow team up as well, since there are very few foes who could match their skills. But a battle against each other could be an instant classic and one of the coolest Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers team-ups we can imagine.

Rocket and Spider-Man

Rocket and Spider-Man would be a very cool Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers team-up.

One of the things that Rocket is going to have to deal with on Earth is that he really is a raccoon, and he was likely born on this planet as well. You can bet that most of the Avengers will be freaked out by the talking Raccoon with a big temper and an even bigger gun. But we’re thinking that Spider-Man would greet Rocket with a sense of eagerness and wonder that would only alarm him. Remember how excited Spider-Man was to see the Winter Soldier’s metal arm? Amplify that times 1,000 when he gets to meet Rocket. Although we’ll bet that Rocket will not be amused by the attention.

Mantis and Vision

Another great idea for a Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers teamup is Mantis and Vision.

If you know your Avengers comics history, then you’re aware that these two have a connection that goes back a very long time. When Vision (Paul Bettany) and the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) were still in the early days of courting each other, Mantis clearly had romantic feelings for Vision and they shared a bond. Years later, that bond was revisited long after Scarlet Witch had separated from Vision. On the big screen, Vision and Mantis both seem to have varying degrees of empathic powers. Mantis could also complicate the Vision and Scarlet Witch romance again if she feels attracted to him in this incarnation as well.

Star-Lord and Captain America

Star-Lord and Captain America

How well do you think children know the story of Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? The first Avenger was literally the first superhero that anyone had ever seen in this world, and it has been established that there are actually museums and legends built around Cap’s WWII career. Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) is a living legend, and we’re pretty sure that Star-Lord will know full well who Captain America is. Whether Peter Quill has any reverence for Captain America remains to be seen. But consider this: Cap’s shield was a powerful symbol for the original Guardians of the Galaxy in the future of the Marvel Universe. We wouldn’t at all be surprised to see Quill briefly wielding the shield just to pay off that obscure connection.

Mantis and Doctor Strange

Mantis vs. Doctor Strange? It's a Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers crossover we want to see on the big screen!

Although Doctor Strange isn’t an Avenger in this world, we think that he’d be very intrigued to meet Mantis. You see, Mantis is more than just an empath. In the comics, she’s also the Celestial Madonna, the woman destined to be the mother of “the most important being in the universe.” Strange’s Eye of Agamotto would probably help him realize this almost immediately. That could potentially raise the stakes in the battle with Thanos. If Mantis’ life is threatened, would the title of Celestial Madonna pass on to another? Or would Mantis’ death imperil the future of the universe itself?

Drax vs. Thanos

Drax vs Thanos is one of the Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers crossovers we're dying to see.

Drax’s mission in life is to kill Thanos and avenge his family. In the comics, they’ve battled many times, but never in live action. A one-on-one battle has to happen at some point, and there’s no better time than in the middle of Infinity War. There’s just one major problem: Thanos is much more powerful than Drax. To be honest, Drax would probably get badly beaten in any extended fight with the Mad Titan.

That said, there’s no reason that Drax can’t play a part in the final battle to bring down Thanos once and for all.

Nebula & Gamora vs. Thanos

Of course, the big Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers crossover will be seeing Nebula and Gamora kick Thanos' ass!

Drax isn’t the only member of the Guardians with a grudge against Thanos. Gamora was Thanos’ adopted daughter, and she clearly resents the way that she was taken as a “prize” and turned into a killer. Nebula hates both Gamora and Thanos, but we think that the two sisters may end up sharing common ground when it comes to their “father.”

Both Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Gamora appeared in the original Infinity Gauntlet storyline that depicted Thanos’ quest for ultimate power. Nebula actually played a very big role in the resolution of that story, and it will be very interesting to see if history repeats itself on the big screen.
