Ben Affleck has dropped out of the Triple Frontier film
Ben Affleck (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Good Will Hunting) has left Netflix’s Triple Frontier film, according to Variety. Though there are no details yet, the Triple Frontier film has had a number of casting changes. Back in April, Tom Hardy (Mad Max: Fury Road, The Dark Knight Rises) and Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street, Magic Mike) left the film and Paramount pulled out. Affleck has been in talks for the role since then. The Triple Frontier film has actually been trying to get off the ground for almost a decade. J.C. Chandor, the Oscar-nominated writer and director behind Margin Call, All Is Lost and A Most Violent Year, is taking the helm.
At one time eyed to be director Kathryn Bigelow’s follow-up to her Academy Award-winning The Hurt Locker, Triple Frontier was written by that film’s Mark Boal. The story is set in the notorious border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil where the Igazu and Parana rivers converge – making “la triple frontera” difficult to monitor and a haven for organized crime. The film was also set to star Moonlight‘s Mahershala Ali.
Among those attached to Triple Frontier over the years are stars like Johnny Depp, Tom Hanks and Will Smith. Academy Award-winnerAffleck is known for his work in films like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice where he played Bruce Wayne/Batman, Armageddon and Pearl Harbor. He directed, co-produced and starred in Argo, which won an Academy Award for Best Picture.
