Carmen Sandiego movie lands Game Night writer Mark Perez
Deadline brings word that the in-development Carmen Sandiego movie over at Netflix has just made major progress in pre-production with the signing of screenwriter Mark Perez (Game Night) to pen the script.
Netflix acquired the film rights to the character in March and subsequently ordered a live-action film with Jane the Virgin‘s Gina Rodriguez set to star in the titular role. The streaming service has already ordered a 20-episode animated series set to debut next year that also features Rodriguez voicing Sandiego, as well as Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) set to voice Sandiego’s chief accomplice and friend Player.
Perez is still enjoying the success of his most recent comedy, Game Night, which made nearly $120 million at the global box office and received very positive reviews from critics for its darker humor, interesting premise and performances from its ensemble cast.
No director is currently set for the Carmen Sandiego film, nor is an actual release date set for the series, but fans can look forward to seeing the criminal mastermind return to the small screen next year.
