The Deuce Season 2 Episode 4 Recap
In the previous episode of HBO’s The Deuce, Eileen pitched her Little Red Riding Hood idea in Los Angeles, and Rudy burned down a rival massage parlor. This episode began with Larry taking headshots for his new porn career.
“Oh My… What Big Ideas You Have”
Eileen started pre-production on LRRH. She showed her idea book to Harvey, who reminded her that the porn aspect had to be good. It seemed quaint to him, but Harvey asked for a script anyway. Eileen struggled when she sat down to write it, but looking out her window inspired her to put an urban twist on the classic story. Eileen recognized she couldn’t do everything herself so she hired a writer for the script.
Notions
Larry finally got what he wanted; he booked a role in one of Harvey and Eileen’s films. He struggled with the lines and complained about the writing. When Eileen and Jocelyn tried to rewrite the script, Darlene let them know that Larry can’t read well, so it wouldn’t make a difference. Eileen decided that Larry and Heather should improvise their lines, and they got through the scene successfully.
While Lori was on set, the cameraman’s wheezing was distracting her. C.C. suggested to the director to have the male actor hold the camera so the audience could imagine themselves in his shoes. The director dismissed the idea at the time, but admitted he might use it in the future. C.C. decided to pitch another idea: “The Life and Times of a Pimp”. Lori complained to Kiki about it. Kiki proposed an arrangement where she and C.C. would split fees for jobs she found for Lori. Lori agreed, but was scared to tell him.
On Guard
Hodas retaliated and burned down Geisha House. One of the girls, Kitty, didn’t make it out. This caught Goldman’s attention. The chief ordered Det. Alston to go to Goldman’s headquarters to help him out. When Alston got there, he saw the other cops that were there and left. When Goldman tracked him down, Alston pointed out that half the men who had been ordered to help him would warn the mob about what he was doing.
Vincent and Bobby were dealing with Geisha House burning down. Vincent tried to distance himself from that part of the business, but he found himself going deeper when he witnessed Tommy Longo murder someone he thought was going to hit the other massage parlor.
Jane Doe
Dorothy and Dave tracked down the dead girl’s family. Her real name was Stephanie, and she was only sixteen. Her father ignored them and closed the door when Dorothy told him her body was at the morgue. Abby told Vincent that they would be paying for and planning a funeral for her. She was beginning to suspect Vincent’s involvement in the massage parlors, and the mob’s role in his businesses.
