Universal acquires Ben Affleck’s I Am Still Alive adaptation

Universal Pictures has won the movie rights to the I Am Still Alive adaptation set to star Oscar winner Ben Affleck (Argo, Good Will Hunting), Deadline has confirmed. The project is based on Kate Alice Marshall’s novel of the same name that was published by Viking Children’s Books.

Marshall’s book is described as Wild meets The Revenant, infused with ferocious girl power. Jess is a teenage every-girl who, after a car crash kills her mother and leaves her injured, is forced to move in with her off-the-grid dad in the Canadian wilderness and adapt to a new way of life. But when certain events leave her stranded, far away from any help with only her father’s dog for company, she’ll discover she’s stronger than ever imagined.

Affleck will portray the father in the feature, which will be written by Lori Evans Taylor (Bed Rest). Pearl Street Films Banner will produce with VP Madison Ainley overseeing the project alongside Universal’s creative executive Mika Pryce.

Affleck’s next onscreen project is Netflix’s Triple Frontier action movie, starring alongside Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Garret Hedlund, and Pedro Pascal. Other upcoming credits include The Last Thing He Wanted, Torrance, Witness for the Prosecution, and The Batman.
