Lorne Balfe replaces Alexandre Desplat as Black Widow’s composer
Following Disney and Marvel Studios’ decision to delay the release of their highly-anticipated Black Widow due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it looks like the upcoming MCU film will be making another major change late into its’ post-production stage. According to Film Music Reporter, Emmy-nominated Scottish composer Lorne Balfe has reportedly signed on to replace Oscar winner Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Shape of Water) as the film’s new composer.
Balfe is best known for his work on action films such as: 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazim and Mission: Impossible Fallout, Gemini Man, Bad Boys for Life and 6 Underground. He has also been a long-time collaborator of award-wining composer Hans Zimmer, who have work together on films like: The Dark Knight, Dunkirk, and the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.
This is not the first time Desplat has been replaced late into the process of a film, as Michael Giacchino took over scoring duties from him on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in 2016.
