Paramount Pushes Johnny Knoxville’s Fourth Jackass Film to Summer 2021
According to Deadline, Paramount Pictures has pushed Johnny Knoxville’s Jackass, the fourth movie based on the MTV stunt-prank reality series, back to July 2, 2021. The movie was originally set to release on March 5, 2021, and will now open against Universal’s Minions: The Rise of Gru.

The franchise originated in 2000 with the MTV series that ran for three seasons and was a major hit for the network and its cast, ending after the third season due to creative and financial conflicts between the network and its stars. It found new life on the big screen with 2002’s Jackass: The Movie, which was originally envisioned as a farewell to the series and a way for the crew to circumvent the censors and do as many wild stunts as they pleased. After it was a major box-office hit, Knoxville and director Jeff Tremaine sought to have more wild adventures with the 2006 sequel, which fared a little better with critics and was another big hit at the box office.
After a three-year hiatus, which saw star Steve-O successfully come out of rehab, the franchise returned with the truly bombastic Jackass 3D, which brought the wild pranks to life in screen-bursting fashion and was a hit with critics and audiences alike, grossing over $171 million at the box office, the largest of the franchise. Knoxville would return to the series for the well-received 2013 spinoff movie Bad Grandpa, which was also a box office hit and earned an Oscar nomination for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
“We’re approaching the 20th anniversary of when Jackass first appeared on MTV, and I do know that there’s an urge, an idea to commemorate that anniversary in some way,” Knoxville said in a statement.

There are no current details on what the fourth film will feature, including whether the full cast will return, but it’s more than likely Knoxville will return after he hinted at the possibility of a fourth installment last year while promoting his Jackass-esque comedy Action Point. The new film will also mark the first installment in the franchise since the death of star Ryan Dunn in a car crash in 2011.
