Waiting for the Barbarians Trailer & Poster Featuring Rylance, Depp & Pattinson
Samuel Goldwyn Films has released the first Waiting for the Barbarians trailer and poster, starring Academy Award winner Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies, Wolf Hall, Dunkirk), Oscar nominee Johnny Depp (Sweeney Todd, Finding Neverland, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl), and Robert Pattinson (The Batman, Tenet, The Lighthouse). Based on Nobel Prize-winning author J.M. Coetzee’s novel of the same name, you can check out the trailer for the drama in the player below as well as the full poster in the gallery!

The Magistrate (Mark Rylance) of an isolated frontier settlement on the border of an unnamed empire looks forward to an easy retirement until the arrival of Colonel Joll (Johnny Depp), whose task it is to report on the activities of the ‘barbarians’ and on the security situation on the border. Joll conducts a series of ruthless interrogations, which leads the Magistrate to question his loyalty to the empire.

Waiting for the Barbarians is directed by Ciro Guerra (Embrace of the Serpent) from a screenplay by author J.M. Coetzee, who adapted the script from his own novel. The film is produced by Iervolino Entertainment’s Michael Fitzgerald, Olga Segura, and Andrea Iervolino along with Monika Bacardi. It is also executive produced by Sir Martin Franklin, Cristina Gallego, Danielle Maloni, Deborah Dobson Bach, and Penelope Glass.

The film had its world premiere at the 2019 Venice Film Festival and will be released On Demand and on Digital platforms on August 7.
