Paul W.S. Anderson to Adapt George R.R. Martin’s In the Lost Lands

Paul W.S. Anderson to adapt George R.R. Martin’s In the Lost Lands

It appears that director Paul W.S. Anderson is on board with another fantasy project. According to Deadline, the Resident Evil director is writing the script of the upcoming fantasy-adventure adaptation of In the Lost Lands. The latter is a short story from the pen of George R.R. Martin, best known for the A Song of Ice and Fire saga — which was the basis of HBO’s Game of Thrones series — but also a prolific author of short stories. The project will star Resident Evil star (and Anderson spouse) Milla Jovovich and the Guardians Of The Galaxy‘s Dave Bautista.

Anderson, Jovovich, and Bautista will also produce the movie together with Jeremy Bolt, Jonathan Meisner, and Constantin Werner.

The story follows a city’s desperate queen who wants to obtain the gift of shapeshifting. She hires sorceress Gray Alys (Jovovich), a witch who grants wishes, no matter how outlandish. The queen then sends Gray Alys to the Lost Lands in the company of the mysterious drifter Boyce (Bautista). Together, they have to “outwit and outfight man and demon in a fable that explores the nature of good and evil, debt and fulfillment, love and loss.”

The producers already announced a previous iteration of the project for the Berlin market six years ago. However, that project never came to life. Now, they still have to announce an official release date for the new version.
