Focus Features has released the behind-the-scenes featurette and clip for Tom McCarthy’s upcoming Matt Damon-led drama Stillwater, which just had its world premiere at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival. The featurette includes interviews by McCarthy, Damon, Abigail Breslin, and Camille Cottin as they talk about the unique and emotional story of a father who is just trying to save his daughter. As for the clip, it features Breslin’s character as she confides with her father about her former girlfriend Lina, whose death was blamed on her.

Stillwater centers around Bill Baker, an American oil-rig roughneck from Oklahoma who travels to Marseille to visit his estranged daughter, who is in prison for a murder she claims she did not commit. Confronted with language barriers, cultural differences, and a complicated legal system, Bill builds a new life for himself in France as he makes it his personal mission to exonerate his daughter.
The film is directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Tom McCarthy from a script he co-wrote with Marcus Hinchey, Thomas Bidegain, and Noé Debré. It stars Matt Damon, Abigail Breslin, Camille Cottin, and Deanna Dunagan.

Stillwater is produced by McCarthy, Steve Golin, Jonathan King, and Liza Chasin. It is produced by DreamWorks Pictures, Amblin Partners, Anonymous Content, Participant Media, Slow Pony, and 3dot Productions.
The film is currently slated to arrive in theaters on July 30.
