Ghost of Tsushima: Legends Getting New Mode, Features, and Standalone Release

Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut is right around the corner and is mainly centered around the Iki Island expansion, but that’s not all it’s getting. Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, its post-launch free co-op mode, will be receiving a whole new mode as well as a standalone release for $19.99 on September 3. Players can also upgrade to the full game for $40.

Everyone on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 — be it the free update or the paid standalone game — can play together, too. This covers the existing modes as well as the upcoming Rivals mode that’s coming on September 3, just two weeks after Director’s Cut. Rivals is technically PvE but with a PvP base. Two teams of two take on waves of enemies and each killed AI foe rewards players with Magatama, a form of currency. Spending this currency activates a variety of debuffs or hazards for the enemy team, which can range from rigging enemy corpses to explode to draining their opponents’ health.

Sucker Punch is also adding Mastery Challenges, which is for those who want more from Legends‘ endgame. Players unlock Mastery Challenges by binding gear that’s level 110 to a class. The gear can then be leveled to 120 and more perks, abilities, and techniques can be unlocked along the way. This feature is launching with Rivals on September 3.

However, some changes are coming with Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut on August 20 and they’re based on community feedback. Survival sessions will be shorter and there will be new weekly Survival Nightmare variants. Those who have finished Jin’s story in New Game Plus will also get additional cosmetics. It’s worth noting that these cosmetics that are earned during the campaign can’t be earned in the paid version of Legends since that package contains just the multiplayer.
