Amblin’s Horror-Thriller The Last Voyage of the Demeter Wraps Production

Amblin Entertainment has announced that production on the long-in-development horror-thriller film The Last Voyage of the Demeter has finally been completed after over three months of filming.

The project hails from André Øvredal (Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark), who is directing from a screenplay written by Zak Olkewicz, Bragi Schut, and Stefan Ruzowitzky. The studio has also revealed the first photo from the upcoming project, featuring a ship’s wheel which has the engraved letters of Demeter.

Based on a single chilling chapter titled “The Captain’s Log,” from Bram Stoker’s classic novel Dracula, The Last Voyage of the Demeter will be led by David Dastmalchian (The Suicide Squad) as Wojchek, Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones) as the ship’s captain, Aisling Franciosi (The Nightingale) as Anna and creature feature actor Javier Botet (IT, The Conjuring 2) as Dracula. Joining them are Corey Hawkins (In the Heights), Jon Jon Briones (Ratched), Stefan Kapicic (Deadpool), Nikolai Nikolaeff (Daredevil), Woody Norman (The War of the Worlds), Martin Furulund (Monster), and Chris Walley (The Young Offenders).

“The film tells the terrifying story of the merchant ship Demeter, which was chartered to carry private cargo-fifty unmarked wooden crates from Carpathia to London,” reads the synopsis. “Strange events befall the doomed crew as they attempt to survive the ocean voyage, stalked each night by a merciless presence onboard the ship. When the Demeter finally arrives of the shores of England, it is a charred, derelict wreck. There is no trace of the crew.”

The Last Voyage of the Demeter is currently slated to arrive in theaters on January 27, 2023.
