Most Craved Takes on the New Star Trek Series

On the latest episode of Most Craved, we’re chatting about the new Star Trek series, SPECTRE and the rise of gender-bent protagonists

We’ve got a trio of topics on the latest episode of Most Craved, but only two hosts. Jenna Busch of Legion of Leia joins our own Silas Lesnick for a chat about the new Star Trek series on the way in 2017, the new James Bond film, SPECTRE, and the growing prevalence of gender-bent characters. Regular host William Bibbiani of CraveOnline will be back soon!

The new Star Trek series was announced earlier this week. The CBS Television Studios project is produced by Alex Kurtzman and will premiere in January 2017. The catch? Only the premiere will air on CBS and subsequent episodes will only be available on their subscription video service, CBS All Access. Will people sign up for the service to watch a new Star Trek series? What could this one be about?

Then, we’re chatting about SPECTRE. Having opened earlier in the UK, SPECTRE was getting a lot of positive reactions. Now that it’s finally opening domestically, North American critics have some very mixed reactions. Have you seen the film yet? Let us know what you thought in the comments below!

With Ghostbusters going all-female, other franchises are following suit. This week brought the announcement of an all-female Ocean’s 11 reboot, a TV series with a the monster-hunting Vanessa Helsing, while, in comics, we’re seeing popular new reimagined characters like Spider-Gwen. Is gender-bending your hero becoming a gimmick or is it an important set in achieving equal gender representation in media?

We’ve also launched the official Most Craved Twitter feed and we’d love it if you’d give us a follow! You can watch previous Most Craved episodes by clicking here.
