The Wiener-Dog trailer offers a look at the latest dark comedy from Welcome to the Dollhouse’s Todd Solondz
Amazon Studios and IFC Films have brought online the Wiener-Dog trailer, which offers a look at the new dark comedy ensemble from Todd Solondz. Solondz, best known for films like Welcome to the Dollhouse and Happiness, writes and directs the new film, which arrives in theaters next month. Check out the Wiener-Dog trailer in the player below and take a look at the film’s poster and an official still in the gallery viewer at the bottom of this page.
Wiener-Dog stars Academy Award winner Ellen Burstyn (Interstellar, Requiem For a Dream), Kieran Culkin (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Igby Goes Down), Julie Delpy (Richard Linklater’s Before Sunrise series), Danny DeVito (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Lorax), Greta Gerwig (Mistress America, Frances Ha), Tracy Letts (The Big Short, August: Osage County) and Zosia Mamet (Girls, The Kids Are All Right). The film aims to offer a dark, starkly funny story of a single dog and the many different people she touches over her short lifetime. Man’s best friend starts out teaching a young boy some contorted life lessons before being taken in by a compassionate vet tech named Dawn Wiener. Dawn reunites with someone from her past and sets off on a road trip. After leaving Dawn, Wiener-Dog encounters a floundering film professor, as well as an embittered elderly woman and her needy granddaughter, all longing for something more.
Wiener-Dog is produced by Megan Ellison and Christine Vachon. Look for it to hit the big screen June 24.
