Shoot Like a Girl Eyes Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie is eyed to headline Shoot Like a Girl.

Angelina Jolie would play Air Force Major Mary Jennings Hegar in the biopic Shoot Like a Girl

Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie is, according to a story today at The Hollywood Reporter, in talks to headline Shoot Like a Girl, a big screen adaptation of the upcoming memoir by Air Force Major Mary Jennings Hegar. Set to be published next spring under the full title “Shoot Like a Girl: One Woman’s Dramatic Fight in Afghanistan and on the Home Front,” the book is officially described as follows:

On June 29, 2009, Air National Guard major Mary Jennings “MJ” Hegar was shot down while on a Medevac mission on her third tour in Afghanistan. Despite being wounded, she fought the enemy and saved the lives of her crew and their patients. But soon she would face a new battle: to give women who serve on the front lines the credit they deserve…

After being commissioned into the U.S. Air Force, MJ Hegar was selected for pilot training by the Air National Guard, finished at the top of her class, then served three tours in Afghanistan, flying combat search-and-rescue missions, culminating in a harrowing rescue attempt that would earn MJ the Purple Heart as well as the Distinguished Flying Cross with Valor Device.

But it was on American soil that Hegar would embark on her greatest challenge—to eliminate the military’s Ground Combat Exclusion Policy, which kept female armed service members from officially serving in combat roles despite their long-standing record of doing so with honor.

In “Shoot Like a Girl,” MJ takes the reader on a dramatic journey through her military career: an inspiring, humorous, and thrilling true story of a brave, high-spirited, and unforgettable woman who has spent much of her life ready to sacrifice everything for her country, her fellow man, and her sense of justice.

Set up at TriStar, Shoot Like a Girl will feature an adapted screenplay by Frank Baldwin. Nicole Brown is set to oversee for TriStar alongside Hannah Minghella.

The New Jumanji Cast Offers a Triple Update

The New Jumanji Cast Offers a Triple Update.

Check out new Jumanji set photos from stars Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson

As production continues on Sony Pictures new Jumanji movie, the cast is back with a triple round of behind the scenes social media posts. In the first, Kevin Hart shares photographic evidence of himself towering over costar Dwayne Johnson. In the second, Johnson reveals that he gets around set a little differently from the rest of the cast. Finally, the third photo proves that three Karen Gillans are better than one as the actress poses next to her stunt doubles. Check out all three new Jumanji posts below!

The new Jumanji cast also includes Jack Black, Nick Jonas, Ser’Darius Blain, Madison Iseman, Alex Wolff and Morgan Turner. As we previously reported, it would appear that the Johnson, Gillan, Hart and Black are playing the “avatars” of the kids actually playing the Jumanji game in the film. Interestingly, though, Gillan refers to her character here as Martha, which is also the name the character was given when casting was first announced. Since then, however, it has been revealed that Gillan is playing an avatar named Ruby Roundhouse. Could Martha be the name of the girl playing as Ruby? It’s also worth nothing that Martha Shepherd was the name of the children’s mother in the first Jumanji.

Bad Teacher and Sex Tape helmer Jake Kasdan will direct from a screenplay by High Fidelity and Con Air scribe Scott Rosenberg with frequent Bad Robot executive producer Jeff Pinkner serving as a consultant. Matt Tolmach, William Teitler and Ted Field are producing. Mike Weber and Van Allsburg executive produce.

Jumanji is based on Chris Van Allsburg’s 1985 children’s book in which a magical board game causes jungle plants and creatures to invade a quiet American suburb. The 1995 original film was directed by Joe Johnston and starred the late Robin Williams, Bonnie Hunt, Kirsten Dunst, Bradley Pierce, Jonathan Hyde, Bebe Neuwirth, David Alan Grier and Patricia Clarkson. According to Johnson, the new film will serve as a sequel rather than a full reboot.

Jumanji hits the big screen July 28, 2017.

Ben Affleck and J.K. Simmons on the Solo Batman Movie

Check out an update on the solo Batman movie.

The Accountant’s Ben Affleck and J.K. Simmons will soon reteam for the solo Batman movie

Academy Award winners Ben Affleck and J.K. Simmons both headline next month’s The Accountant, Gavin O’Connor’s dramatic thriller about an autistic math savant whose investigation in a company’s finances soon turns deadly. Although The Accountant marks their first project together to hit theaters, they’ve already completed work on their second: Zach Snyder’s Justice League. Affleck is reprising his Batman role for that film with Simmons set to make his debut as Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon.

“For me, it was another example of getting to be a supporting guy,” Simmons told us today during a press junket for The Accountant, “and getting to work with Ben again.”

“Movies are all about the director. I’ve learned that, finally,” Affleck smiled. “When you work with a director, you’re on his or her ship. You’re going in that direction. Your job is to be creative and bring forth your ideas, but to fulfill this person’s vision of how they’re telling the whole story. You have a silo that you’re responsible for in your performance. For me, it’s about getting as in tune with a director as possible. You’re making their movie… The nice thing about acting is that, if the set falls down, you can just go back to your trailer. Things are not my problem.”

Although it’s no big surprise, it sounds like Justice League won’t be the last time we see Affleck and Simmons together. Simmons essentially confirmed that he’ll be back for the upcoming solo Batman movie, tentatively set for a 2019 release with Affleck both starring and sitting in the director’s chair.

“I’m trying to wrap my mind around the whole ‘director is god’ thing,” Simmons laughed in response to Affleck’s comments. “There might be some of that going on in the future. Wow. What am I in for?”

Although questioned directly about the solo Batman movie and it’s status, Affleck declined to offer much of an update saying that the film is “way too far off.” When a reporter asked about how Batman might fare against his character from The Accountant, however, Affleck knew exactly what to say.

“I’ve only ever thought about beating Jason Bourne,” he grinned.

“Oh,” reassured Simmons, “You’ll kick his ass for sure.”

Check back soon for more from The Accountant, including an exclusive conversation with director Gavin O’Conner. You can catch it on the big screen October 14. Justice League, meanwhile, will arrive in theaters November 10, 2017. Check back for updates on it and the solo Batman movie as they develop.
