Samuel L. Jackson Says S.H.I.E.L.D. will re-emerge in the MCU
Production at Pinewood Atlanta on the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War doesn’t officially begin until November, but we’re slowly beginning to learn how the threequel will shake up the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it. During a press day for Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children today we got to ask Nick Fury himself, Samuel L. Jackson, about a very important entity within that universe — S.H.I.E.L.D. — and whether it will re-emerge in the MCU proper.
ComingSoon.net: In “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” the filmmakers went way out of their way to explicitly state that S.H.I.E.L.D. is kind of a fascist organization. That said — and the TV show notwithstanding — do you still think there’s still a place for S.H.I.E.L.D. within the MCU?
Samuel L. Jackson: Yeah! For sure, definitely. Why wouldn’t there be? There’s some way of fixing what they created, and hopefully somebody has that going on or Nick Fury is out there — wherever he is, probably hanging out with Jules and walking the world — figuring out what happened and how it got to that particular place. Maybe they’ll find out that all that was part of a ruse to get to something else also. That would be great. They’ll bring me back somehow, some way, for some reason. I mean, they didn’t have me around to referee the kids when they didn’t go to their rooms and got in this big old fight. We’ll see what happens.
There you have it. Nick Fury and, most likely, S.H.I.E.L.D. will have an important part to play in the battle with Thanos (Josh Brolin) over those pesky Infinity Gems. Keep an eye out for our interviews with Jackson and the rest of the cast of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children tomorrow!
Originally a two-parter, Avengers: Infinity War is now the name of solely the third film in the series with the upcoming fourth Avengers film set to feature a different title. Both of the films will be shot back to back, an unprecedented move for Marvel Studios at this point. Directors Anthony and Joe Russo, who return after Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War, will direct the features.
It remains to be seen which characters will be the primary focus of the films, though we do know that Captain Marvel will appear in the movies ahead of her solo movie in 2019 and that the film will feature the combined forces of The Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely will pen the scripts for the two features which directors Anthony and Joe Russo will film entirely in IMAX. Composer Alan Silvestri will also score both of the features. Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War is slated for a release in theaters on May 4, 2018. The follow-up will then open on May 3, 2019. Both films are now also confirmed for 3D releases.
