Shock Video: Tim Burton Talks His Love of Mario Bava
With 20th Century Fox releasing its hugely successful new fantasy adventure Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children this past weekend, we got a chance to have an exclusive video chat with the film’s legendary director Tim Burton (Batman, Beetlejuice, Ed Wood). During our conversation we brought up one of ShockTillYouDrop’s favorite horror filmmakers Mario Bava (1914-1980), whose gothic 1960 classic Black Sunday was a critical influence on many of Burton’s films, particularly Sleepy Hollow. Burton talked enthusiastically of Bava’s debut film, as well as his use of vivid colors in the 1963 anthology Black Sabbath. Check out Burton geeking out about Bava in the video player below!
