Justice League international box office numbers coming in

While the Warner Bros. Pictures movie doesn’t open until tonight in North America, the Justice League international numbers are already coming in. The DC film grossed an estimated $8.5 million on Wednesday in nine overseas markets, as well as select preview markets. The movie played on nearly 6,000 screens.

Taking advantage of the Republic Day holiday, Brazil opened on a non-traditional Wednesday, shattering the box office and becoming the biggest industry opening of all time. Justice League captured 74% box office share of the top five films, grossing an estimated $3.7 million on 1,509 screens, also making it the industry’s widest release ever.

Previews in Korea earned an estimated $1.14m on 1,195 screens. Justice League came in roughly on par with Wonder Woman, which had a full day of screenings compared to the sneaks for Justice League.

France dominated the market with approximately 61% share of the top five admissions, with a confirmed $1.1m with 130,000 admissions on 687 screens. Opening in a non-holiday corridor, these results are +19% ahead of Wonder Woman.

And Indonesia opened strong with an estimated  $895,000 on 888 screens, coming in as the #1 highest opening day for a Warner Bros. film ever, including all DC titles, as well as the #5 biggest industry opening day ever.

The film releases in an additional 38 markets today, including Germany, Italy, Russia, Korea and Australia.

Justice League stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon.

Fueled by the hero’s restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Justice League sees Bruce Wayne enlist the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Directed by Zack Snyder (Batman v Superman: Dawn of JusticeMan of Steel), the screenplay is by Joss Whedon and Chris Terrio from a story by Snyder and Terrio. Whedon directed the additional photography for the sequel and is overseeing the completion of its post production following Snyder’s family tragedy. Justice League is produced by Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, Jon Berg and Geoff Johns. The executive producers are Jim Rowe, Wesley Coller, Curt Kanemoto, Chris Terrio and Ben Affleck.
