There are NO SPOILERS, but if you want to remain completely in the dark on the movie, you may still want to steer clear. Anthony and Joe Russo directed the film, which is produced by Kevin Feige. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee are the executive producers. Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely wrote the screenplay.
Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War is opening in theaters on April 27. Then, the Avengers assemble again for the still-untitled fourth film, set for May 3, 2019.
Anyone who writes a review of #AvengersInfinityWar has their work cut out for them, because you’re literally reviewing half a movie. That said, for the first half of a six hour epic it’s pretty nuts, full of more pluses than minuses, but certainly not a full experience.
— Max Evry (@maxevry) April 24, 2018
Josh Brolin truly brings it. His motion cap performance is as nuanced and full of relish as you would hope a genocidal super villain would deliver. His motivation is a lot stronger than in the original comic as well. #AvengersInfinityWar
— Max Evry (@maxevry) April 24, 2018
Beyond the inevitable deaths, the most shocking thing about Avengers: Infinity War is what an unapologetic, full-bore sci-fi movie it is. Despite having made two relatively grounded Marvel movies, The Russo’s take to these outrageous fantasyscapes like ducks to water.
— Max Evry (@maxevry) April 24, 2018
I would go one further and say the more fantasy/sci-fi stuff involving Guardians, Thanos and Thor is far more compelling and funny and mindblowing than the earthbound conflicts. #AvengersInfinityWar
— Max Evry (@maxevry) April 24, 2018
Weak stuff: Subplot involving Vision, the concept of which I never entirely bought into, and which drives the entire Wakandan section of the film. Everyone in that subplot feels like ciphers, lacking any arc beyond being cool-looking chess pieces from better movies. #InfinityWar
— Max Evry (@maxevry) April 24, 2018
Doctor Strange emerges as a truly fascinating character. He contains multitudes… literally. Cumberbatch is now in firm command of that character’s gravitas, and delivers the one action and single line that everyone will be discussing and debating for the next year. #InfinityWar
— Max Evry (@maxevry) April 24, 2018
Those predicting #InfinityWar will beat #BlackPanther at the box office… doubtful. Rewatchability factor not even close to Coogler’s movie. It’ll be super front-loaded. It’s not a full meal, so audiences will likely have their fill of it until Part 4 resolves all next year.
— Max Evry (@maxevry) April 24, 2018
#Avengers #InfinityWar: Wow. Just…WOW! I was NOT expecting THIS! What a ballsy movie! Blown away! See this NOW! Do not get spoiled! Can’t believe what I just saw!!!! pic.twitter.com/dITeGTHTsu
— Jenna Busch (@JennaBusch) April 24, 2018
Social media embargo has lifted on #avengersinfinitywar: I found it epic, satisfying, SURPRISING w/ LOT of crowd pleasing moments. Thanos is compelling, sympathetic. Henchpeople pose true threat. This is a culmination of decade of adventures. MVP is Thor. Unleash your Qs…
— Aaron Sagers (@aaronsagers) April 24, 2018
#InfinityWar: Everything in the MCU has been building to this moment, and the stakes are felt. You’ll be thrilled, chilled even, but it very much plays like a “Part 1.” One half of a bigger story that – even at 2:45 long – can frustrate in its “we can’t solve that yet” mentality.
— Howlin’ Matt Donato (@DoNatoBomb) April 24, 2018
Although, don’t read that as “#InfinityWar is bad.” Especially if you’re a Cosmic Marvel fan (GUARDIANS/THOR/STRANGE). This is a movie event that understands expectations and the gravity of its own reality. Prepare to be awed by multiple scenes.
— Howlin’ Matt Donato (@DoNatoBomb) April 24, 2018
Last note: I love how #InfinityWar does not homogenize the individuality of heroes. When we’re with the Guardians, it’s like Gunn is ghost directing. Wakanda doesn’t lose Coogler’s tone. Strange’s world is still a headtrip. This was a fear coming in, but not anymore.
— Howlin’ Matt Donato (@DoNatoBomb) April 24, 2018
I forgot to schedule a 1:30am tweet so here is my AVENGERS INFINITY WAR reaction:
First 2/3rds are somewhere between okay and PHANTOM MENACE-level boring.
Final 1/3rd rocks.
Big finish is legendary.
Post-credits sting is sublime, truly.
— Jordan Hoffman (@jhoffman) April 24, 2018
#AvengersInfinityWar: Despite some truly thrilling moments, feels like less than the sum of its parts. A definite step down after that epic run of GotGV2 / Spidey / Thor 3 / Black Panther, but what else did I expect?
— Angie J. Han (@ajhan) April 24, 2018
#AvengersInfinityWar is a hurricane of carnage, audiences buckle up for #Thanos #InfinityWar #beatdown @Avengers @MarvelStudios
— Julian Roman (@realjulianroman) April 24, 2018
AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR: A movie version of a massive comic-book crossover, for better (fun character interactions) and worse (it’s pretty much all Infinity Stone shenanigans). YMMV. #avengersinfinitywar
— Matt Singer (@mattsinger) April 24, 2018
Buy a ticket for a second viewing of #AvengersInfinityWar now. The movie delivers, it’s huge, and no one in your theater is going to be able to sit quietly through this one. Expect the unexpected. pic.twitter.com/8eobaAYrSF
— Jill Pantozzi (@JillPantozzi) April 24, 2018
I am overwhelmed. The movie is epic beyond compare. LOVED it. My legs are still shaking. It’s a gigantic @Marvel masterpiece. So much to say but I’ll stay Silent Bob til Monday so as not to slip in spoilers. Suffice to say it’s gonna be a looooong year until @Avengers 4… pic.twitter.com/aHnsgj5MK0
— KevinSmith (@ThatKevinSmith) April 24, 2018
After 10 years of investment in this series & these characters, boy does #AvengersInfinityWar knock you on your ass. Humor, sky high stakes & a truly overwhelming amount of emotion in it. Russos did a great job spreading screen time for the ensemble but my MVPs – The Guardians.
— Perri Nemiroff (@PNemiroff) April 24, 2018
Avengers: Infinity War is Marvel at its most narratively clean-cut and operatic. The culmination of decade-long character building thrills more than the action and Infinity Stones gathering.
— Jordan Raup (@jpraup) April 24, 2018
Jaw on ground. You are not ready for ‘Avengers: Infinity War’. All you have to know is AVOID ALL SPOILERS! Seriously. Go in knowing as little as possible. The @Russo_Brothers did the impossible. Wow. pic.twitter.com/noKZ5cQWdc
— Steven Weintraub (@colliderfrosty) April 24, 2018
My favorite part of Infinity War is that Scarlet Witch calls Vision “Viz”
— M. Arbeiter (@micarbeiter) April 24, 2018
#InfinityWar is mostly great, somehow managing to mix all the elements of the MCU into one big mix-tape of fun, thrills, emotion… and despair. The ending is brilliant.
— Scott Collura (@ScottCollura) April 24, 2018
I liked #Avengers #InfinityWar more than a lfew other folks I’m talking to after the premiere. It’s hugely emotional and very funny but some might find it … I need to sleep on this.
— Jim Vejvoda (@JimVejvoda) April 24, 2018
I feel hungover after last night’s adrenaline bender #InfinityWar pic.twitter.com/eBxeAnzztg
— Nick Romano (@NickARomano) April 24, 2018
Holy Hell. Avengers: Infinity War is the real deal. Was left breathless sitting in the theater. Real consequences, stunning moments, awesome character interaction, and some BIG and often devastating surprises. Oh, and Thanos is terrifying and amazing. Damn. pic.twitter.com/WWhsT12GTa
— Eric Eisenberg (@eeisenberg) April 24, 2018
Laughter. Fights. Tough decisions. Triumph and emptiness. @Avengers has it all. I feel the weight of what I just saw and the journey of the last ten years bearing down. Mama needs a drink. Wow. #infinitywar #ThanosDemandsYourSilence
— Grae Drake (@graedrake) April 24, 2018
You know how Gamora says Thanos can snap his fingers and destroy the universe *just like that*? That’s how fast @Avengers feels. It might be the most intense 2.5 movie hours of your life. #AvengersPremiere #InfinityWarPremiere #ThanosDemandsYourSilence
— Grae Drake (@graedrake) April 24, 2018
I’m not sure how I feel about #AvengersInfinityWar but when you see it know that part 2 is just a year away.
— Rob Keyes (@rob_keyes) April 24, 2018
Avengers Infinity War is a colossal high impact action movie with lots of great humor and a spectacularly unpredictable ending. Brolin is excellent. Avoid spoilers.
— Scott Derrickson (@scottderrickson) April 24, 2018
But, after seeing the film last night, I can’t help but harp on this little tidbit from the duo: “[After you see IW] I think you’re probably gonna have fewer ideas about what [Avengers 4]’s gonna be than you do now.” UH, PARDON?
— Kate Erbland (@katerbland) April 24, 2018
AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR has like ten legit “chill down the spine” great moments. But it’s for sure the first half of a two part movie and I left a little unsatisfied/frustrated, maybe by design … at least that’s how I feel right now three hours later.
— Mike Ryan (@mikeryan) April 24, 2018
Emotionally, narratively, visually, Avengers: Infinity War a very impressive piece of entertainment and storytelling. Somehow, it left me exhausted and excited at the same time. pic.twitter.com/YPICbbNNyQ
— Germain Lussier (@GermainLussier) April 24, 2018
AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR is very weighty and juggles most of its characters with consideration. It’s the closest thing to a Paul Thomas Anderson movie you’ll find in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I Am Shook! #Marvel #AvengersInfinityWar pic.twitter.com/YgntkXFIkv
— Rudie Obias (@RudieObias) April 24, 2018
#AVENGERS #INFINITYWAR lives up to the hype and then some! It’s unlike anything that has come before. A game changer not just for Marvel, but for summer blockbusters themselves.
— Silas Lesnick (@silaslesnick) April 24, 2018
#InfinityWar is everything you want, nothing you expect. It’s funny, surprising, dark, filled with delightful interplay between characters never seen on screen before. I know many filmmakers say they are trying to make a sequel in the vein of Empire Strikes Back, this succeeds.
— Peter Sciretta (@slashfilm) April 24, 2018
MVPs: Thanos!!! Thor, most of the Guardians, Peter Parker, best ending of any Marvel movie, possibly the best end credits scene of any marvel movie. Cons: Cg villains other than Thanos, teenage Groot, not enough black panther leads.
— Peter Sciretta (@slashfilm) April 24, 2018
#InfinityWar may be the most expensive Hollywood movie ever designed to mess with its audience. People sure are going to sit through a lot of credits!
— erickohn (@erickohn) April 24, 2018
I saw #AvengersInfinityWar earlier tonight and I can say that it delivers. There’s a lot of really fun character interactions, some cool action moments (Thor’s powers, Iron Man’s suit), and a few powerful emotional beats. Most of the humor is Also Captain America is pic.twitter.com/WoZNPDpGXk
— Molly Freeman (@mollyrockit) April 24, 2018
AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR is basically CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR times 20, except with less hero-on-hero fighting. I think people who loved the airport fight in CIVIL WAR like I did will go nuts for this film, and people who were bored will be 20 times as bored here. #InfinityWar
— Tasha Robinson (@TashaRobinson) April 24, 2018
Another thing: I’ve been reviewing films for decades now, and I have never heard an audience react to the end of a film like the #InfinityWar audience reacted tonight. It was an astonishing experience. (And it’s another reason I want to see the film again in a packed house.)
— Tasha Robinson (@TashaRobinson) April 24, 2018
From beginning to end, #AvengersInfinityWar is non-stop action. It’s really dynamic and jaw-dropping, but at times, it could have stopped for air and give us more substance on plot points. Loved it when the audience clapped as soon as #BlackPanther & #okoye entered the scene.
— Wilson Morales (@blackfilm) April 24, 2018
#AvengersInfinityWar: Imagine taking a giant bowl and filling it with every flavor of ice cream and every topping.
— Jordan Zakarin (@jordanzakarin) April 24, 2018
#AvengersInfinityWar is my second fave @Marvel movie after #BlackPanther. The superhero interplay is hilarious and surprising at every turn. The action is monumental. And there are actual stakes this time around. Kevin Feige is not f-cking around with this one.
— Nigel M. Smith (@nigelmfs) April 24, 2018
Is #AvengersInfinityWar the best MCU film? No. #BlackPanther just came out (and dropped the mic). But this is top tier MCU. Thanos is a fully realized villain with understandable motivations.
— Brandon Norwood (@bwood0824) April 24, 2018
INFINITY WAR is exhausting. *Exhausting.* It all just turned into noise for me after a while. But the amazing ending almost made up for the rest of it. And Thanos is a good, sad villain.
— Bilge Ebiri (@BilgeEbiri) April 24, 2018
#AvengersInfinityWar is the MCU’s biggest soap opera ever, and that’s not a bad thing. Feels more like a sequel to Guardians, and you’ll get to see what makes a Mad Titan tick. We will have A LOT to unpack soon.
— Mike Sorrentino (@MikeJSorrentino) April 24, 2018
AVENGERS #infinitywar felt like Marvel just dunking all over DC: Genuinely funny jokes that felt effortless, real emotional stakes & payoffs from a decade of world building and character development, crisp, inventive action sequences and an ending that left my jaw on the floor.
— Daniel Barna (@RealDanBarna) April 24, 2018
The final minutes of AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR are heartstopping. Can’t wait for the next one. Marvel wins again. #AvengersInfinityWar #Avengers #InfinityWar
— Ben Barna (@sufferings) April 24, 2018
I’ve left every Marvel movie with a sense of where the franchise was going. The strong “Avengers: Infinity War” is the first time where I’m utterly perplexed about what’s next. There were audible gasps at the NYC screening. pic.twitter.com/xouqNzh7ps
— Frank Pallotta (@frankpallotta) April 24, 2018
WE SAW INFINITY WAR AND KNOW EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS IN IT OMG
