NBC Cancels Timeless for Second Straight Year
Deadline is reporting that Timeless has been cancelled, yet again, by NBC. The network however is in talks with Sony Pictures TV to produce a 2-hour series finale TV movie though it remains to be seen if that will come to fruition. As fans of Timeless know, the second season of the sci-fi series ended on a huge cliffhanger and the TV film would reportedly wrap up all of the storylines introduced during both seasons.
The idea of a 2-hour TV film will be expensive and NBC, Sony Pictures TV will have to negotiate new contracts with the cast as their options for another season will expire on June 30th. However, the idea of a series finale film is not unheard of having previously been done on CBS for CSI and recently with Sense8 on Netflix.
The sophomore series was cancelled after it’s first season due to lackluster viewer ratings, but was resurrected three days later by NBC due to the passionate fan base flooding NBC with support for the show. NBC ended up giving the series a 10 episode second season that premiered on March 1st.
The cast of Timeless includes Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter, Malcolm Barrett, Goran Višnjić, Paterson Joseph, Sakina Jaffrey and Claudia Doumit. Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke are the creators, writers and executive producers. Tom Smuts and Arika Lisanne Mittman are co-showrunners and executive producers. Don Kurt, Greg Beeman, John Davis, John Fox and Marney Hochman also executive produce. Timeless is a production of Sony Pictures Television, Davis Entertainment, MiddKid Productions and Kripke Enterprises.
