Legendary secures rights to horror short They Hear It

According to Deadline, Legendary Entertainment and The Picture Company have secured feature rights to Julian Terry’s 2018 horror short They Hear It. First time filmmaker Terry made the short specifically as a proof-of-concept for an eventual feature.

The high concept story is about an ominous presence that stalks the children of a small town by emitting a mysterious noise called The Sound that attracts younger people, presumably to their doom. While further details are being kept under wraps, the film is described as a cross between IT and A Nightmare On Elm Street, and will be a lower-budget horror flick in the vein of Mama and Lights Out.

The Picture Company’s Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona will produce They Hear It, with Jacob Chase executive producing. Jon Silk and Blake Avery will oversee for Legendary.

Although better known for blockbusters like this week’s Skyscraper and the Jurassic World films, Legendary is no stranger to the horror genre, having previously made mainstream fright flicks like Trick ‘r TreatAs Above, So BelowDracula UntoldCrimson Peak and Krampus.

Terry previously directed short film The Nurse, which was New Line’s Annabelle: Creation short film contest winner from last year, as well as the well-recieved short Whisper, both of which can be found on his YouTube page.
