The official plot synopsis reads as follows:
Norm, the newly crowned polar bear king of the arctic, travels to New York to accept the keys to the city. But Norm goes from hero to villain when he’s framed for a crime he didn’t commit! While he is trying to clear his good name, back in the Arctic a vicious bottled – water company has moved in and is starting to steal the ice. Norm must rely on his friends, both old and new, to clear his good name and help save his kingdom in a winner take all hockey match in this Dove Family-Approved for all ages film.
The first Norm of the North, which hit theaters in January 2016 and starred Rob Schneider (Real Rob) in the titular role, was only a minor box office success, grossing $30.5 million off of its $18 million budget and was poorly received by critics. Prior to its release, Lionsgate had announced the development of two direct-to-video sequels, the first of which is Keys to the Kingdom and had officially entered production in January of this year.
The sequel will be directed by Tim Maltby and Richard Finn and written by Derek Chan and will see Andy Toth take over the role from Schneider. Norm of the North: Keys to the Kingdom is set to hit select theaters and video on demand on January 11.
