Olivia Cooke did not come to play nice in the first trailer for Vanity Fair
The first trailer for Amazon Studios’ film adaptation of Vanity Fair is here to chronicle the meteoric rise of Becky Sharp, played by Olivia Cooke. You can check out the trailer in the post below!
Gwyneth Hughes’ adaptation of William Makepeace Thackeray’s literary classic is set against the backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars and follows Sharp as she attempts to claw her way out of poverty and scale the heights of English Society. Her story of “villainy, crime, merriment, lovemaking, jilting, laughing, cheating, fighting and dancing” takes her all the way to the court of King George IV, via the Battle of Waterloo, breaking hearts and losing fortunes as she goes.
Directed by BAFTA winner James Strong (Liar, Broadchurch, United) and produced by Julia Stannard (War & Peace, The Great Train Robbery, United) Vanity Fair also stars Tom Bateman (Murder On The Orient Express), Charlie Rowe (Salvation), Claudia Jessie (Line of Duty), Simon Russell Beale (Penny Dreadful), Claire Skinner (Outnumbered), David Fynn (School of Rock), Johnny Flynn (Genius), Martin Clunes (Doc Martin), Frances de La Tour (The History Boys), Suranne Jones (Doctor Foster) and Michael Palin as Thackeray himself.
Filmed in Budapest and London, the series originally premiered on ITV in the UK. Mammoth Screen’s Damien Timmer executive produces the series along with Strong, Gwyneth Hughes, Tom Mullens and ITV’s Polly Hill & Victoria Fea.
Vanity Fair premieres on Amazon Prime Video on December 21.
