James Franco’s Zeroville finally sets release date after 4 years

According to Deadline, myCinema has successfully acquired the U.S. theatrical distribution rights to actor-director James Franco’s comedy-film Zeroville. Starring Franco, Seth Rogen, Megan Fox and Will Ferrell, the digital content company is planning to release the film this September, four years since its world premiere at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. The film was originally scheduled to be released in 2016 but was pulled out from the schedule due to Alchemy declaring bankruptcy months after gaining the film’s U.S. rights.

Zeroville is based on Steve Erickson’s 2007 novel of the same name. It follows the story of a young man obsessed with cinema arrives in Hollywood in 1969 and climbs the ranks of Hollywood’s ’70s movie elite finding true love to be a dangerous romance in Hollywood.

The cast includes Franco (The Long Home) as Vikar, Megan Fox (Transformers) as Soledad Paladin, Seth Rogen (Long Shot, The Lion King) as Viking Man, Will Ferrell (Elf, Blades of Glory) as Rondell, Craig Robinson as a Burglar, Danny McBride as a Financier, Jacki Weaver as Dotty, Joey King (The Conjuring, The Kissing Booth) as Zazi, and Dave Franco (Six Underground) as Montgomery Clift.

The film is directed by Franco from a screenplay written by Paul Felten and Ian Olds. Franco and Vince Jolivette have produced the project via their Rabbit Bandini Productions banner along with Caroline Aragon, and Michael Mendelsohn via his Patriot Pictures banner.
