Comic-Con: Archer earns surprise season 11 renewal

Despite talks from series creator Adam Reed that he intended to end the spy comedy series after its current tenth season, FXX has revealed that the long-running hit Archer will continue with an eleventh season.

Archer is FXX’s Emmy Award-winning, animated comedy that, in its current tenth season, centers around the spaceship M/V Seamus as Archer, Lana, and the rest of the crew explore deep space and try to outsmart space princes, intergalactic pirates and vicious bounty hunters.

The past few seasons of the series have seen the characters in different timelines including a 1947-set noir mystery entitled Dreamland, a 1938-set treasure-hunting adventure entitled Danger Island and the current space-set 1999, as the titular spy remains in a coma after being shot in the stomach in the seventh season finale.

“We are incredibly excited for our 11th season and look forward to Archer waking up from his coma and returning to a spy world that has continued without him for the past three years,” executive producer Casey Willis said.

Willis also hinted at Archer awaking from his coma with the world having moved on from him and everything changing, with his friends and coworkers having new personalities around the office and the love of his life (though he would never openly admit it) Lana has moved on from him to another man.

“Archer can’t understand how everything moved on without him; he’s the center of the universe in his mind. And Archer is going to change throughout the season as well,” Willis said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

While Reed had previously discussed plans to end the series after its tenth season, Willis confirmed that he will return for the eleventh season in a more reduced role, helping to plot out the stories for the episodes while slated to script one episode.

The series is created by Reed and led by a voice cast featuring H. Jon Benjamin, Aisha Tyler, Jessica Walter, Chris Parnell, Amber Nash and Lucky Yates,  and is executive produced by Matt Thompson.
