Spider-Man: Far From Home Swings High with $185 Million After 6 Days

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Far From Home landed at the #1 spot at the domestic box office this weekend, bringing in $93.6 million across the three-day weekend and $185 million since its domestic release on July 2. In its first six days of release, the sequel is outpacing 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, which had brought in $154 million in its first six days. Internationally the film is performing exceptionally well, bringing in $395 million internationally (having opened a little earlier in China where it has already brought in over $100 million) for a worldwide total of $580 million.

Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 4 slipped into second place, bringing in $34.3 million and pushing it past $300 million domestically with a $306.6 million US total. Internationally the film added another $43.1 million for an international total of $343.4 million and a global total of $650 million. With inflation adjustments accounted for, the sequel remains the lowest grossing of the series but is the fourth highest grossing movie of the year.

Danny Boyle’s Beatles-inspired movie Yesterday stayed in third place, dipping just 36.8% and bringing in $10.75 million, giving it a $36.8 million domestic total. Internationally the film has brought in $20.1 million for a worldwide total of  $56.9 million. Produced on a reported budget of $26 million, the fantasy rom-com will have good legs for the rest of the summer.

Annabelle Comes Home fell into fourth place, bringing in $9.75 million, bringing its domestic total to $50.1 million and all but insuring it will be the lowest grossing movie in The Conjuring franchise. The sequel has brought in $84.6 million internationally for a worldwide total of $134.7 million, well behind 2014’s Annabelle (the next lowest in the series) which brought in $257 million.

Disney’s Aladdin slipped into fifth place in its seventh week, dipping 24.9% and bringing in $7.6 million for a domestic total of $320.8 million. Internationally the film added $16.2 million, crossing the $600 million mark at the domestic box office and giving it a global total of $921.7 million. Aladdin remains the #3 film worldwide for 2019 (behind Avengers: Endgame and Captain Marvel), and is almost assuredly the surprise hit of the summer.

Elsewhere at the box office:

Ari Aster’s sophomore effort Midsommar delivered the best indie opening of the year bringing in $10,902,112 over the 5-Day Holiday weekend.
