Simon Curtis (Goodbye Christopher Robin) will direct the adaptation, with Neil Moritz producing alongside Tania Landau and Patrick Dempsey, who at one point was attached to star in the film. Universal picked up the book in 2009 when Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy) was in talks to star, but development took its time. Eventually, Dempsey stepped aside and the project stalled on the development track. The film is based on the best-selling 2008 novel of the same name by Garth Stein.
