October Horror Movie Recommendation: The Loved Ones
Every day for the month of October, Coming Soon is making a new horror movie recommendation for those eager to find a new frightening flick for Halloween. From the creepy goodness of a classy ghost story to a blood-spattered gorefest and everything in between, we’ll have something for every taste of horror. And today’s pick is…..
THE LOVED ONES
What’s The Loved Ones about: Still reeling from his father’s death the year before, Brent finds himself aimless and apathetic about life while his girlfriend tries to cheer him up ahead of their school’s end of the year dance. After Brent rejects the advances of the school weird girl Lola, Brent becomes the target of a sadistic father and daughter whose only goal is torturing her high school crushes in unimaginable ways.
Why The Loved Ones rules: The simplicity of the film’s premise makes it an instant classic as the brutality of its graphic violence unfolds and amps up. It also weaponizes your empathy for its characters and constantly makes you reevaluate what you thought you knew about them all along.
How scary is The Loved Ones: The sadistic torture scenes will no doubt churn stomachs with the film’s various developments punching you in the gut. Also, it will get the song “Not Pretty Enough” by Kasey Chambers stuck in your head, a different kind of scary.
Be on the lookout for: You may recognize Robin McLeavy who plays Lola as Eva from Hell on Wheels, while Jessica McNamee’s goth Mia can next be seen in the big-screen reboot of Mortal Kombat as Sonya Blade.
Where to watch The Loved Ones: You can watch The Loved Ones for free (with ads) on TubiTV. You can also order your own copy on DVD and Blu-ray by clicking here.
