Both Universal Parks extend closure into April

Both Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Florida closed their doors to the public in mid-March over concerns with the global coronavirus outbreak. The original goal was for both Universal Parks to reopen on Saturday, March 28, but now you can expect the parks to remain closed until at least Sunday, April 19.

Here is the official statement…

We are extending the closure of Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood through April 19 as we continue to respond to current conditions and make the health and safety of team members and guests our top priority. This includes our theme parks and Universal CityWalk at both destinations. The Universal Orlando Resort hotels have also temporarily suspended operations. We will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments as needed, based on guidance from health agencies and government officials.

Universal was expected to open their new ride The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash! to the public on March 27, based on the Illumination Entertainment franchise. No new tentative date was given for the ride, which is expected to anchor a new Illumination “neighborhood” on the west side of the park’s Upper Lot.

The Hollywood park, which also acts as an active studio for films and television shows, closed its gates on March 14.
