Dwayne Johnson Reveals Production on Black Adam Could Be Delayed

During a live Q&A session with fans, Dwayne Johnson shared that production on Black Adam is scheduled to begin this summer in July (via Joblo). Obviously, with the current pandemic, those plans could change should production be shut down or delayed.

“I’m very excited about Black Adam by the way, I’ve been training very, very hard for that role. We were supposed to start shooting it in the summer, in July, and we’ll see. I’m not quite too sure if it’s still gonna happen, or, at least, if we’ll still start shooting in July but it will all work out the way it’s meant to work out,” said Johnson.

Black Adam will be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows, Jungle Cruise) with a screenplay by Adam Sztykiel (Rampage) based on the DC Comics character. The movie is currently set to arrive in theaters on December 22, 2021.

Johnson, who served as an executive producer on Warner Bros’ latest DC-superhero outing, has been slated to play Black Adam for some time, and though he wasn’t in Shazam!, his origin story was told by the wizard Shazam, played by Djimon Hounsou (Guardians of the Galaxy). The artist formally known as “The Rock” explained that while Black Adam was originally involved in the story of Shazam!, they decided to save his debut for a later film to let each character get some breathing room.
