Les Misérables & Invisible Life set for April release on Amazon Prime

Amazon Prime Video has officially set the release dates for their critically-acclaimed international films Les Misérables and Invisible Life which will be available for streaming on April 10 and April 3, respectively. Both films had its world premieres at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival with Les Misérables winning the Jury Prize. They were also nominated at the 2020 Academy Awards for Best International Feature but both lost to Bong Joon-Ho’s Parasite. Inspired by the 2005 Parisian riots, LES MISÉRABLES, is from breakout director Ladj Ly, that tells the story of Stéphane, a recent transplant to the impoverished suburb of Montfermeil, joins the local anti-crime squad where he works alongside two unscrupulous colleagues. When an arrest turns unexpectedly violent, the three officers must reckon with the aftermath and keep the neighborhood from spiraling out of control.

The film stars Damien Bonnard, Alexis Manenti, Djebril Zonga, Steve Tientcheu, Jeanne Balibar. It was co-written by Ly, Giordano Gederlini, Alexis Maneti.

After the film’s had its premiere, it went on to win four major awards at the 2020 César Awards and was officially selected by France as it entry for Best International Feature Films at the 2020 Academy Awards.

Set in 1950 Rio de Janeiro, Invisible Life follows the story of two inseparable sisters Eurídice, 18, and Guida, 20, who are living at home with their conservative parents. Although immersed in a traditional life, each one nourishes a dream: Eurídice of becoming a renowned pianist, Guida of finding true love. In a dramatic turn, they are separated by their father and forced to live apart. They take control of their separate destinies, while never giving up hope of finding each other. A tropical melodrama from the director of Madame Satã.

Based on author Martha Batalha’s 2016 novel, the film is written and directed by Karim Aïnouz. It stars Carol Duarte as Euridice, Julia Stockler as Guada and Fernanda Montenegro.

After the film’s had its premiere, it was was officially selected by Brazil as it entry for Best International Feature Films at the 2020 Academy Awards.
